MSD Ignition
I have purchased a Blaster 2 coil, MSD performance cap and rotor as well as some irridium plugs and 9mm plug wires. My questions is do I need to use the .8 ohm ballast resistor or not? I will add the ignition box and the whole distributor system later, but for now I will just install what is listed here.
Not sure if you still need the info but I just did this swap today. You will not knead the ballast resistor because you use the wires that are attached to the coil and they come off of your module in your distributor and attach to your coil so the voltage is all ready regulated. You will attach the 2 black wires with the yellow stripes to your positive and the yellow wire with the green stripe to your negative. I added wire to the existing wires using butt connectors and I think it was 16 gage but am not completely sure. There is no spot for the wire to exit so I notched the distributor in the muddle where it faces the fire wall so that the gasket lays over them and used a little silicone to make it water tight not sure if this is the way it was supposed to be installed but it works good for me. I also kept the brass plate that shields the stock coil not sure if it is going to help with any thing or not hope this helps you or some one else.
Totally correct joe. I did the same thing about 6 months ago, and I just ran the wires back through that little rubber piece where all the other wires were. It was a little tricky but did the job. Also, if you look on the passenger side of the engine bay, right below the battery, there are two holes that are already threaded that the bracket for the coil bolt right up to. Just try and find some bolts that match the thread. I can't remember what the thread count is, so just play around. Also, you might want to find a coil cover...something like that, can't remember exact name, but if you don't, you might have a failure due to moisture. Just had a hell of a rain storm, and my car died because I didn't cover up the contacts with wax or anything. So I would look into that also.
