raise tire pressure enough that u wont be riding the sidewalls. always look ahead a few cones or turns. listen to ur tires, if they squeek and squeal then ur taking the turn to fast. maybe take back seats and spare out and all that junk, every lil bit helps. remove any loose items or possible projectiles. make sure ur battery is tied down tight. check all lug nuts and make sure they are tight, and after the race(very important!) make sure u tighten the lugs again because they will become loose after racing. leave ur car in 2nd gear when racing, shifting takes up to much time and prolly is not needed. remember, slow and steady wins the race. most important, HAVE FUN!!! :D is this ur first time autoxing?

go to scca.com and look up the rules on weight reduction. just make sure you stay in whichever category you want to race in.

Cool. I was going to write something up but I know every SCCA region runs things a little differently; that's more of a general overview.

Here's some good info on classes: http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/index.html

mugen, don't bother taking out your door panels, all it will do is push you into a higher class where you will be competing against more highly modified cars. But I'd have to look at your mod list to see where you should be now anyway.

I can explain more what it all means, but later -- I'll actually be out racing all weekend, it's the divisional championship, and I'm going to get my ass kicked, but it will be fun! It's really no place for a newb, but what can I say, I'm addicted :)

So if I remove my rear seats and factory spoiler will I still be in stock class?, the only mods i have are lowerings springs and intake.

in the street prepared category it say "F. Any steering wheel may be used. An alternate wheel which
replaces an airbag-equipped wheel is not required to have an
airbag. An alternate wheel is not required to have a horn button." So if they put me in this class, it will suck...
but im gonna stop worring about it and just have fun... hopefully if they let me race in a class

You can't be in stock class, intake and suspension will put you in STS (street touring sport). I don't know about the airbag thing.

I'll post this just because the thread reminded me of the image.

But in all seriousness, have fun, be safe, and stay level headed. Come back and let us know how it went, we expect nothing less than 5th place, or we throw you out.

to that picture, not when it comes to autox...right setup and skill, u'll be running same times as vettes in pro-stock. seen it done by a 1990 civic...

mugen1, just dont tell them u dont have ur airbags and u'll be fine. i've seen a lot of home built cars and karts race at events and they dont have airbags so u should be fine anyways.

SovXietday, yeah u'll have some tough competition..

when starting out tho, just have fun and watch the more experienced ppl to learn from them.
