Transmission & Differential - Help! Can't shift after engine start

I have '94 Civic EX Coupe 5 Speed. After I start the engine and try to shift, I am not able to put into any gear. Also, when I step on the clutch it feels different. It's hard to explain in words, but it feels "off". Does anyone know what is wrong with it and/or how to fix it? Thank you. T

Grind gears often? Couldve bent your shift fork or messed up your synchros.

Make sure that you push the clutch completely WAY down to the floor. I stall my car on a crowded road before and when i tried to turn it on it won't turn on. I was like **** i better get out and start pushing but it turn out that i didn't push the clutch all the way down to the floor.

no, it sounds like a clutch problem. try to decribe the feel a little better. did it just happen? or was it a gradual thing? was your clutch slipping at all before?

you know as strange as this sounds it might be the problem. When I was young my father had an accord, 94' actually. My mother spilled coke on the shifter all summer long... in the winter my dad would turn the car on to take me to school and he would sit there and fight the shifter for 5 minutes every time. The dealer told him the old sticky coke got down there and would freeze causing the shifter to "lock" .

I would lean towards a faulty master or slave. If either one is bad or low on fluid, the clutch will not depress all the way preventing the car from going into gear. Seen it many times.

IS grinding the gears, like say when you are shifting and while putting it into letrs say 4th the clutch is not al the way in and a load sound happens and it wont go into gear, thats grinding? and how bad is that.

i think we need more info. im leaning toward the master or slave as well, but its hard to tell without more info. check the fluid level. is it low?

Im leaning more towards the coke spill down the drive shaft :D

shifter shaft?

That'd be a little tough to get coke all up in your drive shaft unless you were like drenching your engine with coke or something. I've actually heard that coke is a good engine degreaser. The only problem is getting rid of all the sugar and other ingredients.

ive heard of using the syrup concentrate as a traction compound. dont know if it works or not, it was brought up by a guy who used to race RC cars.

There's a guy who races his nitro RC cars at the track in my area. They are specially made for drag racing and they actually look like miniature drag cars. I don't think a single car has ever beat him. Those things do 0 - 60 in 2 seconds flat, and can get up to like 90 - 100 mph.

actually (i am a certified cook but i dont practice it... cant stand working over a hot grill) sprite or 7up works better. although coke will do the trick. Of course I was joking about the coke thing. I did mean shifter shaft. But when I was talking about my father fighting the shifter on a cold morning... well that was actually true

thats damn funny. its a perk of drinking diet soda (weight reduction;) makes me faster:D) theres no sugar, so it doesnt stain your clothes or get sticky if you spill.

Yeah, but there's always the downside of it tasting like ass... :D

actually, you get used to it. now regular soda tastes like the concentrate syrup.[:'(] except Mountain Dew. thats always good.

Whoa that's crazy. I just saw all of the posts about mountain dew for the first time as I was taking a sip of my mountain dew that I'm drinking right now. I personally like Dr. Pepper and Vanilla Coke the best. And while we're on the food subject, is there anyone out there besides me that looooooooooves Toast Chee? I think they're utterly orgasmic.

(It's obviously the one on the left)

Toast Chee and Vanilla Coke are probably the best combination for a snack in the entire history of the world.

Lol that was some sidetrack haha! Hey speaking of soda, I race nitro cars too, and I know during the beginning and end of the season when the tires and blacktop on the parking lot can't get sticky, they just lay down some grape soda for us on the corners with a deck seal sprayer thing. It works well!

Also, I was wondering about the transmission in my car! Okay, well the thing won't shift back into first unless I'm going just below 20MPH and that's when I've had the clutch pushed in for about 10 seconds. Now I know that my car can only go about 30 or so in first, and it's not like I'm doing mad downshifting into first or anything, but if I were to get another civic and use it for autocross I would need it to shift back into first when I want it to since I can't really afford to boost my car or anything of that nature. SO, I was just curious, what is causing the transmission to resist going into first? I have the clutch all the way in of course, but it takes the synchros a very long time to speed up the layshaft and all of the other gears in there to engage. Is that normal or is my first gear synchro busted or something?
