Has anyone ever removed the stock air box, resonator, hosing etc. on a 99 SI coupe? I'd like to install a less restrictive intake but I'm unsure how hard it will be.

 

It's real easy. Just take off all the bolts and lift it out. You might have to take off the bumper (I did), but lots of people say you don't need to.

 

Should I purchase a less restrictive intake or fabricate my own? Which would be less money?

 

Well making your own is a lot cheaper, but the companies that specialize in them have finely tuned them to get the most horsepower out of them. Plus, you can get them pretty cheap off eBay.

 

Do you have any suggestions to which company I should choose from? I would like one of those cold-air-intakes. I have heard they work the best. Where can I buy just a plain black one, I do not want , for example a bright red or purple, pipe under my hood. Thank you for the speedy assistance.

 

you wont find a black one, at least i have never seen one. there is nothing to it to paint one black though. if you dont want to spend a bunch of money just get one from ebay. Like This then just paint it black

doesnt K&N make a black one? or maybe an AEM V2? isnt that black?

 

im not sure about k&n, theirs might be black, but its also kinda pricey. and i have only seen the V2 in silver, but im sure there are a few more colors than that

 

i cant remember for sure, but it seems like the first ones i saw were black....not sure though.
