Engine & Internal - Timing Belt Cover

is it really important besides keeping the belt clean, i am doing a mini me and the only problem that i have is that the bottom cover will not go on, it is a d15b7 bottom block and a d16z6 head and i have the cover for both the d15b7 and the d16z6.
