I just got 15X6.5 Rota Slipstreams with 205/50/15 Kumho Ecsta ASX tires brand new on my 99 Civic EX. I am wondering what pressure I should inflate the tires to. The inside of the door jamb says front 30 PSI and back 29 PSI but I'm not sure if that still applies. I'm thinking that since Slipstreams are fairly common rims, someone might have first hand experience on this one.

Also, what should I torque the lug nuts to? Discount Tire said 80 ft-lbs, but NTB did 95 ft-lbs when I took it to them to do the alignment. Thank you.

 

for the pressure, it all depends on the tire, and what car you drive them on, just don't exceed the pressure on the sidewall of your tire.

only 80 ft/lbs. for steel wheels
you just have to go by feel, at least that's what i do.

one question though, do your 205's fit the width of your rim (6.5) pretty closely or what?

i was wondering because i was looking into some 195/55/R15's, and just wondering if that would fit the 15x6.5 slipstreams, if not, i'll probably go with a 205/55/R15 then.

 

I would say they fit perfect. The rim protecter in the tires seems like it would work if I were to get too close to a curb. Here are pictures so you can see for yourself. I talked to another guy and he said to go with what is on the door jamb (30 front, 29 rear) but the tire sidewall says the max is 51 psi, so that seems like they would be underinflated. Any thoughts?

 

geez those tires are squeezed on there tight, look like balloons lol. i'd prolly set the pressure between 35-40psi front and 30-35psi rear. look in ur manual for the tq spec of the lug nuts, i believe its 80ft-lbs. go by wut ur manual says, not by some other store or w/e..

 

at 80 ft/lbs., you run the risk of cracking the wheel if it's not steel i believe

 

80 ft-lbs is what my Haynes Manual says. I called the guy at Discount Tire and he said to run the tires at 33 psi all the way around. Just waiting to get my hub rings now before I drive aggressively.

 

See the other tire pressure thread about chalking the tread and rolling it a few yards to find the correct PSI to run your tires at regardless of tire carcass stiffness, rim width, vehicle weight, vehicle weight bias.

For the proper lug torque, contact the wheel manufacturer, as it can differ between different wheel types. Too loose and you could lose a wheel...too tight and you could damage threads/wheels/rotors/etc..
