on the greddy turbo timer, i actually put one in a subaru wrx sti the other day and there are only 6 wires that need to be hooked up. a 12v, acc, ign, and ground, then e-brake, and speed sensor. the civic doesnt have a speed sensor wire, and the e-brake is optional but recommended. if you get the harness, it goes in line with the ignition harness so none of those wires have to be cut, soits reallyeasy.so i doesnt matter what computer you have, cuz the ignition harnesses are all the same

thanks sooo much sig racer

anyone else on teh charge piping? I'm thinking like one J-pipe (to loop around under the washer fluid reservoir), a few straight pipes, a 45 to bring hte piping up after the FMIC, then another straight one?

and again, oil line? Thats the one i have no idea about.....

FlipHKD720

so i need to weld my BOV flange to my charge piping, and also need to weld my oil pan tap to the pan itself. It's all aluminum and i cant find anyone to weld it for me. How did all you guys go about getting your aluminum stuff welded??

Mr Mobsta Man

Originally I was going to take my oil pan to spoolinperformance and get it welded, but I decided to get a d16y7 oil pan instead lol.

but still, BOV plate onto charge piping?? Can you just use a MIG or TIG welder or do you need a special welder?

kokasian

with aluminum, you can mig and tig, just turn the machine down so you dont blow a hole in the piping. TIG would be better, its more precise

got my turbo timer and harness today :)few problems. First is that the entire instruction manual is in Japanese [:@]second, i honestly used my manual and searched all over but cant find where my ignition harness is (that i use with my turbo timer). Can anyone tell/show me where its at?

Mr Mobsta Man
09-23-2007, 07:29 PM
lol, your turbo timer is mad jdm. Iginition wire is black with a yellow stripe and is under the dash behind thesteering wheel if that helps. I think it is hidden by being wrapped in that plastic stuff that keeps wires together and neat.

FlipHKD720
09-23-2007, 07:58 PM
the harness or the wire? Becasue i got a turbo timer harness for 96-00 and it has two different harnesses it needs to clip into. I'll get a picture up ASAP, but it looks like i need to find two different harnesses.....

Mr Mobsta Man
09-23-2007, 08:15 PM
Find that wire and follow it to the harness, I think the harness is tucked a little bit and I couldn't really find it when I was installing my alarm so I just tapped the wire because that was all I really needed to find. IIRC it is a brown plug.

well i cant make a payment on my credit card for anotehr 5 days [:@] but when i do i'm ordering my oil line kit. I'm getting a TunerToys one, 38mm drain flange with a 7/16-24 inlet thread. Charge piping (which will come a day or two after the oil lines), then gotta work a little more and get the ECU and i'm all set :D

09-24-2007, 04:19 PM
haha....

naws it cool you guys, i made a list today of everything i'm gonna need to do and what order i'm gonna do it in, goes something like:

- get BOV adapter plate welded to charge piping/oil drain tap attached and welded to pan (block both off if done beforehand)
- install vac mani/attach boost gauge line
- unbolt sensors/disassemble simulator
- remove header
- drain oil/remove filter
- install sandwich adapter/new filter
- bolt on assembled turbo (manifold/gasket/adapter plate/gasket/turbo/oil lines)
- attach oil feed line to sandwich/drain line to pan
- Attach downpipe flange to turbo/new gasket
- using sanp ring pliers attach BOV to flange/attach vac line to BOV from vac mani
- run vac line to wastegate
- cut stock clips off/attach resistor box
- run wires to resistor box, solder new clips on, attach wires from resistor box
- test fit DSM injectors, grind O-rings down to fit into intake mani
- install intercooler, run charge piping
- install new ECU/conversion harness
- mount turbo timer/plug into harness
- 5 quarts of new oil
- Install new spark plugs (one step colder of course)
- fill up on higher octane gas
- tow to muffler shop, get downpipe welded
- tow to CornBred, get 3 hours (or more) of street tuning
- destroy my clutch on the ride home :D then tow back from wherever this occurs ;)

btw just ordered my oil restrictor. Can deposit money into my account Saturday, so oil line kit will be ordered Saturday :)

EDIT: heres the oil line kit (http://tunertoys.zoovy.com/product/OLK38/Oil_Line_kit_for_Turbos_with_38mm_drain_flange_bol t_spacing.html) i will be ordering.

went to Menards today and test fit a buncha different nuts and 7/16-24 seems to fit really nice. The oil restrictor is made for the same size as well (7/16-24). Also used a caliper and figured out which mm drain flange i need. It seems to be about 40mm, but i guess if the drain flange i got is a bit too small they say you can open one of the holes up slightly to make it fit (they only carry 38mm or 44mm, although i did have a drain flange on there already, so if all else fails i can use that one.)

FlipHKD720
09-24-2007, 08:49 PM
couple new questions:

- can i use the stock o2 sensor bung in the top of the HF manifold for my primary sensor?
- is it totally necesarry to remove the oil pan for the welding/installation of the oil pan drain tap?? Looking at thi picture of Tyler's setup, it doesnt look totally necesarry to me (alot easier, but not required)

Think about it... you have to drill a hole to the oil pan, metal shaving are going to be falling inside the oil pan. Now do you want metal shaving inside your oil pan? lol

yea yea yea......now anybody know about using the o2 bung in the HF manifold for my primary sensor? Or if my install idea is good? Or any more input on the ignition harness location?

Forty04
09-25-2007, 11:24 AM
It won't matter where you put the sensor after you're tuned. The o2 sensor won't be relaying information anymore.

I suggest plugging the one on the manifold, and having a bung put into your downpipe so that you can use that for the wideband when tuning.

FlipHKD720
09-25-2007, 01:13 PM
yeah i'm going to have an extra bung in the downpipe for a wideband (and then just be plugged all other times), but reading back i read that you and Sov both kinda said i needed my primary sensor but can discard the secondary one (since i'll be OBD1 anyway), and it seemed a bit more convenient to just use the HF's bung and then just have one bung welded in the downpipe, but w/e, i can do either one. Hopefully the sensor will reach.

Mr Mobsta Man
09-25-2007, 07:26 PM
If you want I think your tuner can just disable the o2 sensors alltogether.

FlipHKD720
09-28-2007, 02:30 PM
Oil pan gasket and downpipe's flange/bung/pipe are on their way. Getting BOV and oil pan welded soon enough.

well i've always had an on-off problem of oil on hte outside of my pan, and after discussing it with quite a few people around the forum and in the chat the general consensus was that it was a bad gasket. So maybe it'll fix that, and i dont think a new gasket would hurt anyway

StifflersMom
10-02-2007, 04:38 PM

well before ANYTHIGN can happen, Didder's gotta send me my adpater plate! I told him i'd pay him but he says he's just gonna ship it to me, and he's been super busy lately so i cant do anything there.....charge piping will be here Friday, Oil Line and Restrictor should be here next Tuesday, gotta get some random sh*t from Auto Value/Menards, then comes to the ECU. I'm soooo close i can feel it, so it should be an interesting few weeks coming up here.....

and not many pictures on the update, i could take a picture of all my parts this weekend? haha Might mount the intercooler, turbo timer, vaci mani and resistor box this weekend if i get some self-tapping screws and figure out where this damn ignition harness  then some pics will be up

and Gene, you can always check Mossy's thread, its lookin pretty sick over there for sure ;)

FlipHKD720
10-10-2007, 02:38 PM
so the master manipulator of molten metal is hooking me with my adapter plate :D oil lines are here! So that means i'm going to assemble the mani to the plate, then the plate to the turbo, then the beginning the downpipe, which i might as well update on what i did for my downpipe:

If you look here, (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=130150071383) you can see how the flange that has the bung closer to it has three sides, just like my turbo's exhuast outlet side. So, what i did was ordered this "high flow cat", then hack sawed it off right before the bulge, and bolted it to my turbo. Then on the other flange, that just happens to be the same flange that attaches to my midpipe. So i hack sawed off the other flange/little bit of pipe and when i remove my header, i'm gonna bolt the little flange/piece of pipe to my midpipe, then have a pipe welded in between the flange/pipe coming off of my turbo to the flange/pipe coming off of my midpipe. Get it? :D

mounted resistor box and vacuum manifold today, looks great IMO :)was gonna moun the intercooler buti decided not to.

Also got oil line kit in the mail today!! Oil feed fit perfectly into the sandwich adapter, and oil drain line fit perfect onto the nipple that was already on my turbo when it came :)only problem is gonna be unscrewing the old feed line from the turbo, i'm gonna need lots of PB Blaster for it, and lets hope the new drain nipple screws right in

and my digi camera is f*cked up or else i'd have pics :(

Made a final list of things to get from the auto parts store: vac lines, vac nipples, small K&N filter, 20+ small clamps, high heat gasket material, nuts/bolts to attach mani/turbo/plate/dp, some heat shrink tubing for wiring the DSMs, DSM O-Rings (since mine didnt come with any), and i think thats it.....from what i can rememeber atleast

and my MIP is gonna cost me $260 and 6 months probation, so that slows things down a bit [&:]

Woohoo! Big update!! Spent about 6 hours in the metal shop at my old high school today and got both flanges cut for the down pipe, the adapter plate drilled, then found some gasket material the teacher had and assembled everything!

But, then there are oil line troubles. My drain line is perfect, i'm stoked on that, but for my feed line, i took the old adapter that hooked up to the old oil feed line (becasue it didnt fit my new lines), but now none of the new adapters i have fit the hole on the turbo. One looks to be the same size, but the threads are really tight and it doesnt screw into the turbo :( you can see in that one picture the turbo feed hole. So what should i do? Another problem is that the line that looks into the sandwich adapter is also the one that has those fine threads, so i'm at a loss. I have 4 adapters, one from the old lines, one restrictor i ordered, then the oil line kit came with two, one of which fits the sandwich adatper. So, ideas??

- vacuum lines
- vacuum nipples
- various vacuum adapters
- spark plugs one step colder (and gapper)
- all clamps for vacuum lines

and looked into fixing my oil line problem, i just need an adapter for a few of those oil inlet/restrictors and then i think they'll fit up....just takes time

also ordered my little K&N filter, it should be in in like a week, will bolt right onto the turbo, should be siiiiick

Check out ... www.phearable.net for ecus. Actually... they're pretty damn expensive, I had a cheaper site but I lost the link. Anybody got one?

I'll be starting my turbo project after winter... right now it's just boring progress like painting the charge piping and ordering little things.

windcalmer
11-06-2007, 08:02 PM
Wait what is going on with the oil lines?

FlipHKD720
11-06-2007, 08:29 PM
the oil feed adapter that fits into the oil line wont screw into the oil feed threads on the turbo. The Turbo came with an oil feed adapter that fits perfectly into the turbo, but then my oil line wont fit into that. So if i could find a double sided bolt with different threads on eitehr side (one side that fits onto the oil feed on the turbo, and one side that fits onto the oil feed that fits my line), then it will work out. But other than that, i'm lost for ideas

windcalmer

so im thinking i'm getting my ECU for Christmas, my charge piping sometime before then, and over Christmas break removing my A/C, and sometime REALLY soon after the new year doiung the whole install. Just bolting everything on, pinching my BOV onto my piping, the spending like an entire day soldering/connecting my injectors. Renting a U-Haul, towing the Civ to Cornbred tuning, tuning it down there for a day, and then updating you guys. Lets put that as a realistic timeline k? I know it is, I have just started to stretch the legs on mine so to speak. I added a MBC and a stewart warner boost gauge last week. I jumped it to 15psi but my ecu cuts fuel/spark at 12psi. It's didn't for about 3 minutes though and I could break traction on a 2nd gear roll at about 3000rpm. I moved it back down to 11psi but it spikes a little if i'm in say 4th and roll into the throttle to full boost but if I hammer it from second gear on it doesn't. Seems like a ok turbo really. When I get the fuel/timing cut removed from my ecu I plan on running 17psi with a water meth kit. I was going to get another front mount but temps are bound to be good plus I have a crazy ass low 7.6 to 1 compression ratio

If you would like I could take a short vid of the speed-o on a 2nd and 3rd gear pull and post it up in here for you to see.

Mossy
11-30-2007, 02:47 AM
you dont need a uhaul to tow it, just leave the bov section of piping off until you get to the tuner. then its just blowing air into your engine bay. if you have a good basemap on the ecu you will run like that just fine, even with the new injectors.

FlipHKD720
11-30-2007, 07:09 AM
well the basemap would be telling my car thats its getting 8 PSI of boost, and then unhooking my charge piping would basically make it as if there was no turbo on there at all, except the ECU would still be telling it to pump out more gas (along with the 450cc injectors installed)....but i could be totally wrong lol idk, would you other guys think it would be safe to drive with the basemap for once i'm boosted with my charge piping unattached?

Thanks for the idea Mossy :)

StifflersMom
11-30-2007, 07:34 AM
the ecu will see no boost since your map sensor won't read any boost cause there will be no boosttherefore it should run just fine...

The ECU will not tell it to pump more fuel until you get into boost. As boost increases, so does the fuel. So, just drive on the basemap, short shifting and avoiding boost. You will be going very slow, and probably feel like a moron, but its the only way to do it.

if you would onlystop parking illegally... that could have been your piping right there. I would say replace hte windshield yourself, but it isn't a fun project. I did it twice and although it's saving money it still sucks to do.
