Mechanical Problems & Technical Chat - lack of gas

my car has been making some weird noise like its lacking gas kinda like a sput noise but only sometimes but most the time its when i pull it into the garage and sit there and listen to it its sputs and i was thinking fuel pump because its messing with my srs light i think but havnt figured that out yet, but maybe its my fuel filter i dont know when it was last changed. but lastnight while driving i noticed some kinda backfire pop when i was shiffting and that was just after i installed megans headers and new pipe, ive noticed small little sputs when shiffting but havnt really worried about it until just now.

what's a sput noise?

a sputtering noise or instead of constant sputtering noise it might just be one sput, in my case where its not canstant sputtering its sometimes just one sput. sputtering is just plural. didnt think sput would be so hard to understand

i would try the fuel filter first.

cool i will, any idea why exhaust smoke is so visible after i sit somewhere like a parking lot and then drive off i get a lot of smoke coming out.

Ok what color is the smoke, and how heavy is it... does it smell funny? Car running hotter than usual? white stuff in the oil?
