my soon to be addition..
96civic coupe DX but 5speed manual.
of course alittle CRUNCHY. but main reason i bid on the car is for the 5speed so i could have EVERYTHING needed for a swap! ;)
but still havent picked the car up yet. ill pick it up friday noonish.
after i pick the car up i have a big choice. either do the swap as planned OR just rebuild the front end with either 96-98 or update it with 99-00 front end and keep the DX i think it was AC but of course its crushed most likely but as long as most of its there i can fix it and get it working to blow cold air.
enough chat heres the pictures i got.
first off. let me be the first to say YES i got alittle rice on it to cook off.LOL

ive already got some 99 headlights, 99 front grill, and rear bumper for spare parts so i might just do a 99-00 swap if the car is actualy repairable...
anybody got a free carfax report ;)
1HGEJ6169TL802625 just for kicks of course. i know its been in a wreck. LMFAO

i think you should put the manual in your 99, put the auto in the DX, fix the front end since you have some of the parts, de-rice it, and sell it. you might make money off it, and get a manual swap out of it.

Nice, so only the hood and the front is messed up? hows the bottom of the car?

if you are looking at replacing the front end just make sure that there are no wrinkles or bends in the sheet metal other than on the front core support. I see this commonly under the factory airbox, and the corresponding spot on the driver side right behind the headlights. If the only damage (out of the supports)is the core support, then get a new one on there and you're good to go if you just want to fix it.

Not a bad deal, but I think everyone knows it's a HONDA, they didn't need to side sticker... Unless that gives you 5 more horses. As long as nothing else is wrong with it, other than sheetmetal, you could turn a profit.
addiction2bass
07-22-2008, 12:03 PM
ya no da there.LOL hes got HONDA on both sides and also on the back window.LOL
ive also got a extra set of 99 outter taillights as well. well actualy only missing the drivers inner taillight :( definatly razor blade all the stickers off the day i get it home! and then start inspecting the damage. first thing im gonna do is work on the car to get it runing and driving so i can inspect the cars drivetrain out fully before i start pulling much off the car... from the looks so far its very fixable. ill do my best to straighten everything out. tho i might keep the manual tranny in the car till next year... i just want to be sure that the tranny is in good condition before i go start pulling both the cars apart to do the swap ;) and if i can get the AC working it will definatly be a keeper! thats the only reason i sold my old 94ex since it didnt have AC.
i got high hopes now that ill have 2 civics driving again. just have to first get the car then start searching local junk yard for cheap body parts... or maybe buy new parts. not to sure yet.... all depends how bad she is really damaged!
i know i really wanna throw them gears again![sm=gears.gif]

07-22-2008, 01:28 PM
Well, obviously the frame in front is going to need cut out and replaced... I'm not sure you can hammer out that kind of damage lol...
I say just part it out after converting your 99 to manual... but then again, thats probably just because I want to do an EK lower dash/center console conversion lol
addiction2bass
07-22-2008, 04:00 PM
well if you want afew parts. i got afew. i have a spare front console cover no shift boot tho. and a cup holder with the back half cut off to clear the EG rear dash bracing. and afew cut up pieces from the stock EG trim panel. i was about mid way thru my own conversion and then i sold the EG so hurried up and threw the stock crap back in it.LOL i also have a grey EG arm rest.
i also have another EK arm rest console ;) BUT i wont sell the arm rest part until i find out if the 96 comes with a arm rest or not.LOL its not pictured.
and i wont just hammer the body out. i only plan on pulling the radiator suport out enough to clear room to slap a radiator in it so i can drive the car around the yard just to test it out. im pretty sure the stock radiator is smashed from the looks in the picture.LOL ill definatly cut out the radiator support and replace eventualy along with everything else i need to do IF all looks good/repairable.
of its even close to repairable ill repair it ;) if the motor is good and i have a good automatic tranny.... why not.LOL now its time to read up on the swap....
reaper2022
07-22-2008, 04:30 PM
how much would you want for your leftover console conversion stuff?[8D]
And what swap? Auto to manual? From what Ive heard/seen, its more or less a bolt-on affair... the hardest part being reaching under the dash to bolt the pedals in.

Can I have the sidemarkers if you aren't gonna reuse them? lol. And if you parted it out after taking the swap, I'm sure you'd make your $700 back.
addiction2bass
07-22-2008, 07:11 PM
from what iv ebeen reading you also have to do some wiring... so im not sure how easy it will be to instal the automatic in the 96..... :(
and lets say 35bucks shiped for the front console cover, cut cup holder, and misc pieces from old EG console that i cut up.
and ya know i didnt even notice those sidemarkers.LOL most likely they are cheap @ss trailer markers.LOL tho not sure if id keep them or not just yet.

07-23-2008, 06:23 PM
OK so been thinking very hard lately and reading/posting up info/questions
and heres what i got so far... as long as the 96dx frame is not bent and motor is good- im going to keep it a manual 5speed and just turn the DX into my daily driver-custom car. so most the aftermarket parts that are on my 99ex will end up onto the DX eventualy.
add power locks, windows, swap door panels out to match, swap intake manifold to y8 style instead of retarded straight up intake ;)
custom center console molded to fit my DD Dvd radio.
also all the typical goodies, alarm system, stereo. EX cluster.
mainly because ive heard that puting a automatic into a manual car can be a PITA so thats whats holding me back.
also this 96DX has less milage on it (cluster wise at least) hopefully just one wreck in its life.LOL (my 99s been in at least 3 wrecks)
also black can be a huge PITA to keep looking clean (tho it does look bad @ss when clean)
and i might just put the 99ex back stock as much as posible and just sell it and start looking for a hatchback 5speed maybe.
so many PROS and CONS of both with the 5speed being the main PRO.LOL
only thing i will REALLY MISS is the sunroof! and maybe extra 20HP.
but actualy until friday it could go any way! all depends on complete damage on the car.
also PRO for the 96DX is it does have AC and ABS which is a huge plus for me!

07-23-2008, 07:05 PM
damn thats pretty messed up i like how they put trailer reflectors where the fender signals would be... BUT the price is like a soar dick... u cant beat it!!
RiseAgain97
07-23-2008, 07:08 PM
PS u should buy a front end from www.venus-auto.com they include for free a radiator support so it may help replace the one on that one thats bent!! i bought a Honda domani front end and it came to around 914 thats including shipping from cali to illinois !!! plus.. FREE RADIATOR SUPPORT!!!!!! thats like perfect for this application just have that baby welded on and slap the domani or orthia front end on u can even order it in the color as the car the factory color on the domani and orthia may be a little diff paint mix but! u dont have to paint them if u dont want! but the body lines line up cuz there the same car as the civic!
addiction2bass
07-24-2008, 02:40 AM
well i dont know if they are trailer lights. but on ebay the parts that i need to fix the sheet metal looks like only 500-600bucks for everything shiped. im hoping to get a discount on shiping with everything together.
reaper2022
07-24-2008, 02:01 PM
yeah, the auto to manual isnt bad... but I cant imagine wiring and everything for a manual to auto being fun.

07-24-2008, 04:28 PM
ya im excited..... i got everything ready to go get the car tomorow morning. trailers all hooked up, winch-tiedowns all ready, trucks even filled up gas, and cash in hand. ;)
i just REALLY HOPE the rain holds out!!!!!! at least when i get the car and load it up. I HOPE! i got fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly and the cars frame/motor/tranny is in good shape!!!!
addiction2bass
07-25-2008, 11:23 AM
OK she is now in its new home...... EDIT ****EN forum post issues!
just got done pulling it off the trailer. it started up and ran fine right onto the trailer but i just pushed it off the trailer due to a dead battery. the guy even had to jump it. i asume just a bad or totaly dead battery. i have to bust out the bolt cutters and cut the hood latch to get to everything
addiction2bass
07-25-2008, 11:25 AM
and um the reflectors in the fenders. LMFAO glue on trailer reflectors. white pin striping and some ugly @ss flames, turd muffler just ghetto welded to exaust W/hole in that piping as well. and the dead ringer. ALL THE MEXICAN CD CASES and even a porno case in the car. (but no dvd) :( and all empty cds not that i would listen to them anyways.LOL a ton of TREE air fresheners... slight hail damage on the roof and afew other typical dings for a beaner car ;)
addiction2bass
07-25-2008, 11:25 AM
also the car previously took a hit on the passenger door part around the hinges is bent up.
but so far good deal still since the motor runs. gotta cut the hood off to inspect radiator if it actualy holds water or not so i can posibly drive it around the yard alittle after i charge the battery up. decently clean interior at least should clean up nicely.
beaner stereo instal. 4gauge wire thru the door hinges, rcas ran thru the middle of the car AROUND the center console.LOL and i dont think the radio antena is hooked up since i cannt get any stations to lock. and the antena is holding firm down. have to get some pliers and try to yank it out.

YES INDEED... tho suprisingly the muffler doesnt sound to bad. im shocked how quite it really is. so i can keep it on the back burner to do for awhile before i just buy a standard muffler for it.
my first body mod to the car, check out the custom hood baby ;) hahahha

ok new day. most bad sheet metal removed, just not all the front radiator suport. i just put in a new radiator and DANG IT.... the new radiator has a pin hole leak on the top of it so i gotta remove it tomorow and exchange it for another new one. BUT so far motor runs good even tho it has the honda idle surge right now have to see if its just the bubbles in the radiator or cloged intake part just needed cleaned.
and one thing i found out that hell ya the fart can needs removed! going to go back stock muffler this time.

i drove it around the yard about a dozen times. so far clutch seems good, all syncros seem good no grinds BUT i definatly want to instal a short shifter in it eventualy! i swear i never knew it was so much better till i didnt have one.LOL my old 94ex already had a short shifter.
chandler583
07-26-2008, 06:30 PM
Yeah, I need to find me a short shifter
addiction2bass
07-26-2008, 06:48 PM
ill probably replace mine with skunk2 shifter and shift knob. tho first things first get everything running(radiator and upper O2 sensor replaced), front end fixed, alignment, then AC fixed, then muffler, and then the short shifter, its just not that high on the MUST/NEED to do list

ya i want it on the road ASAP.LO L
i just ordered the new radiator support and bumper impact bar. HOPEFULLY they come before this weekend since im off this weekend and should have enough time to replace it.
i also swaped out the radiator AGAIN for anew one and this one doesnt leak at all and motor idles smooth. still alittle low at times but nothing to worry about.
also the radio is just siting in the dash. antena wire wasnt even pluged in! i notice pedals on the car are held on by a shoe lace, some small wire.LOL total crap!
i also razor bladed the rice stickers off yesterday.

That's a sweet vintage style hood! The civics from the 70's to '83 have hoods that open backward. Haha
I love the poorly spray painted DX trim that's peeling. Poor civic looks li ke it came from toys-r-us. :(
At least the damage doesn't look so bad when the panels are off.

07-28-2008, 01:02 PM

and before anyone says anything YES IT NEEDS A BATH! i bought some SIMPLE GREEN cleaner the other day i just need to get some bags from the closet to bag over the distributor and some brake cleaner for the wire terminals and then bag them as well and give it a deep cleaning! and after i get all the body panels replaced ill replace the timing belt and oil seals just incase. i have no idea where all that oil or dirt has came from but its all over the engine bay! i hope i can find any leaking seals so it wont get this dirty again! so far the driving ive been doing i havent had any problem. hopefully the idiots just changed the oil and didnt put the cap on and just never cleaned the engine bay.

gotta try to get some weld thru primer tomorrow and some silver paint. and tomorrow ill drill holes thru the new radiator support and weld it and smooth the welds over and paint over them for a original look.
so far its all good! the AC maybe the biggest PITA since its so tight i might have to pull the header to install the new condenser later on!

my dad just pulled out his suburban and my old impala and pulled there big @ss motor home into the shop.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/addiction2bass/day3springstruts011-2.jpg
so far plans are just REPAIR right now get the body all nice, just sheet metal right now, paint later on.
so far my only plans for upgrading the car is the 99-00 front end of course.
and a short shifter i would really lik e. infact i never knew how good a short shifter felt until i didnt have a short shifter.LOL
i would also li ke to upgrade front speakers and of course put some bass in the trunk. most li kely ill slap my beat up looking typeR subs in it.
power door locks of course with a alarm/remove starter system. YES for a manual ;) i had one on my old EG and never had any problem! i have a habit so im good to go.
other than those minor things nothing much at this time... but lik e anything ideas change.LOL but i have been doing better with my money/credit cards lately. i could have bought all the parts i need and put them on credit cards BUT if i do that im gonna be back indebt paying interest out the @ss for awhile and im trying not to. so far i only owe about 1K total which is alot better than my old 3K bucks i owed ;)

its getting there. today i test fitted the radiator support alittle had to bend it around alittle since it got bent up during shipping :( ups may have delivered it fast but they threw it around alittle to fast! :(
and mostly i cleaned the hell outta the engine bay!!!!! and who would have guessed.... its silver under all that crap. LMFAO
tho i forgot to take a BEFORE picture. but heres what the drivers side looked like. total black!

and just test fitted the new radiator support.
i would have painted it today BUT i forgot to find out the paint code on this car before i went out. so i only bought some weld thru primer and painted it at least.... have to pick up some matching paint for it next.
so tomorrow ill prime and paint the radiator support and let it dry overnight before i drill holes and weld it in place.
its getting there... i just need to order more parts...

07-31-2008, 01:32 PM
you better not have.LOL
my max bid was 812.99bucks ;) and i bid in the last like 30seconds ;) i like to snipe bid like that to try and save some cash..... LOL
and well i fell into temptation alittle right now... i bought the front bumper cover, bumper foam piece, and both fenders. so only thing i need now is a new hood latch and MAYBE hood hinges. i might not need the hinges im not sure yet i think id be able to just bend them back if they are bent any. they seem tight enough to be fine.
and of course a new hood!
then today i found out i cannt find any new paint cans for my cars paint code :(
Vogue Silver Metallic Clearcoat NH-583M
ive looked at all local autoparts store and no one even has touch up paint let alone 5oz paint cans. :( so looks like im just gonna paint the radiator support silver the closest i could find for now. and i guess later on when i do finaly order brand new paint and a good paint gun ill just touch up the radiator support where needed.
hopefully my fenders will come undamaged and i can just bolt them up and run the car 2tone for awhile till i can buy the new paint and a paint gun. ;)
also asked a cop today when i got off work and he said to his knowledge there is no indiana law that says i need anything more than a bumper front and rear. no fenders or hood needed. so HELL YA IM GONNA ROCK THIS SUCKER without them.LMFAO its gonna look bad driving around town.LOL
addiction2bass
07-31-2008, 03:21 PM
ok well just got done painting the support and impact bar. as close as i could find in paint. the silver isnt quite right of course so when i do get the paint for the whole car ill just tape off the top of the radiator support and take the headlights out to paint the top to match perfectly. other than that no one should be able to tell the shade is slightly off. ;)
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/addiction2bass/96%20Civic%20DX/96DXpaint-4.jpg
so tomorrow night ill drill the holes in the appropriate spots and weld the sucker in good, grind the weld spots down and touch in the paint around those points. i gotta buy more paint tho. and when i go back to pepboys im gonna complain my @ss off to them!!!!
all 3 cans of paint i bought from them ALL OF THEM DID NOT HAVE THE SPRAYERS!!!!
ya i was pissed when i poped the cap off to find no paint tips! luckely i save my old ones so i had some at least!
and i think when i get the fenders/bumper cover im just gonna primer them and use primer sealer. it wont look as bad as black front end on a silver car ;) just a temp. i thought paint wouldnt cost so much but i did a quick quote at the paint store when i was buying the weldthru primer and they said like 250-300bucks for a gallon of paint, ruffly 100bucks for the clear coat, then the activators extra again. plus a paint gun. well looks like id be spending quite a bit of cash at once! :(
ive thought about cheaping out and changing the color but i think if i change it to much it would just be a pain to do all the jams and such. and i dont want it to look bad!
ej6buddy
07-31-2008, 03:28 PM
just remember, you bought the car for 700, don't let the repairs become too overwhelming (i.e. new spray gun, paint, etc.) i'd just get a nice macco job if you do the body work.
addiction2bass
07-31-2008, 04:07 PM
true... BUT the new paint gun will be used repeatly. plus macco paint jobs well are HIT OR MISS... all depends on the guy with the gun in his hands! im not a big fan of paint runs or clear coat runs or even overspray :(
paint gun will last typicaly at least 5 full paint jobs. at least the ones ive used in the past. and i do need a new one. old one is to clogged up to do any good!
i can cut alittle cost by only getting like 3quarts of paint and clear and such. but i do like having extra paint for any future problems or modifications. best part about the extra is having the perfect match for future work!
but either way its still cheaper than buying a good or already fixed civic ;)

well the gun my dad bought like 10years ago was supposedly just a disposable gun. mainly because it has plastic internal parts. plastic container on top. plastic sprayer on the inside. its not as good as a full metal sprayer. also wasn't as expnsive. pretty much just a cheap gravity feed gun i tried to keep that gun clean but it doesn't take much to clog up one of those little holes to throw the spray pattern off and for it to be crap! :(

ok well another day alittle more work done. radiator support welded in solid, impact bar bolted up, headlights bolted up, radiator bolted in.
only thing i really need to do now is flush the radiator really good and then fill the system properly with some honda fluids.
and then just get liscence plates for it! i was gonna get the liscence plates today BUT the guy i bought the car from didnt sign the sellers info on the title so i had to wait for the guy to respond back to me about his name and position and dealer number, and by the time he responded the liscence branch was closed :(
pretty odd when i got my insurance on the car they said the vin was a error or something on there computer system, i went home and checked the actual vin numbers all over the car and they did match. no idea why they came up with a error when running the vin! maybe because its a canadian vehicle..
i should get my hood latch, foam bumper absorber, fenders and front bumper cover next week.
fenders and hood says i should get them monday. not sure about the foam bumper part. but i also need the passenger bumper holder piece not sure what its called.LOL
i gotta run some part numbers! :( but so far should be street legal AS-IS tomorrow.LOL

And, IMO, those headlights look fine. But, I think they would look better on your black Civic? Either way, I'd drive with them on my car.

ya well from a distance they look fine.LOL up close they do not have the same clear cover or printing on the clear cover, the passenger one has like a towel imprint from when i baked them apart to paint them.LOL and i didnt really seal them back together much at all just poped back in oven and cramped them back together to hold the best i could.... ill probably buy some ones that are painted black already and then swap the headlights off my 99.
but anyways as-is i should be able to drive it on the road.LOL i just need plates for it now.

ok well i took a short break this morning and went and got plates for it, flushed the radiator fluid alittle more and refilled the system with honda antifreeze. i did afew more small things like some zip ties on the front splash shields and zip tied a old front foam bumper impact bar just for added safety touch ;)
checked the tires and took it for a drive ;) took it down some country roads and then on the interstate, so far so good only thing that bugs me is door pillar damage, at least AS-IS since the rubber seal does not sit evenly on the pillar it has some wind noise. nothing major. just alittle noise im sure i could silence it with alittle silicone or some extra weatherstriping. but right now its not that big of a deal.
and so far the muffler isnt to bad.... tho i do need to seal that rear exaust leak thats infront of the muffler. i may keep the turd on the car maybe not to sure yet have to drive with it more....
at least its road worth now. drives straight so might not even need a alignment but after i have the majority of the body parts on the car i will get a alignment on the car just to be sure not to wear the tires out to fast....
i dont want to get it aligned yet since the weight could be enough to throw it off alittle.
only problem is really the top O2 sensor wires came loose after i pressure washed the engine bay alot. so tomorrow im gonna go to radio shack and buy some wire acid cleaner or what not and try to get the wires clean enough to take solder and then some heat shrink on them after im sure they are stuck good again!
but at least the motor still runs good with the CEL light on ;)
and yes i get some funny looks. LMFAO

once i get the fenders monday it should make it look ALOT more tolerable to look at ;) tho i wont put the bumper cover on till tuesday when i get the right foam bumper thing, and i still need to find some bumper brackets for a 99-00 civic. tho i may have to order new part for it as well :( have to go 2 some local junk yards and hope they have a 99-00coupe! with a good front end. im pretty sure the bumper cover bars shouldnt be to desirable parts.LOL
addiction2bass
08-02-2008, 05:33 PM
Its the ultimate weight reduction. Lmfao
i cannt wait to drive this thing to work and see what people say about it.LOL most likely they will page over the intercom "will the owner of a silver honda please report to security." LOL maybe i should get a laugh for myself and be like WTF who stole my front end off my car.LMFAO
tho next thing to check on the car is the brakes. they dont seem to strong to me BUT then again it is a DX so brakes arent that large on the front. but i still need to check them out.

08-02-2008, 06:20 PM

08-04-2008, 06:39 PM
ok well another day of more progress....
today i got my fender/bumper, primered and sealed them. got them instaled. mostly at least.... im still waiting on the foam bumper backing. and to replace the passenger side top bumper hanger and the middle top grill clips.... right now i just have it pretty much zip tied ;)
looks a hell of alot better BUT it still needs a hood for the updated front end to be complete :(
i think ill have enough at the end of the week.
my neighbor gave me a adress of a body parts place that sells cheap new parts so im hoping i can get a hood even cheaper since i wont have to pay for shiping charges. SO I HOPE i can get it cheaper!!!!!!!
i also swaped out the canadian cluster with a spare EX cluster i had laying around BUT the gas gauge needle is busted (i bought it that way) trying to find a cheap EX manual cluster to get the temp/gas gauge section from.
i also had to remove the ABS modual and put it in the new EX cluster pretty simple there. luckely i had a spare cluster guts that happened to have ABS cut out as well so the full swap wasnt to tuff.

well today i just ordered the hood from same ebay guy. if the place ships like they have been doing HOPEFULLY ill get the hood monday. if he shipped it out today then hopefully id have it tomorrow BUT i didn't order it till about 4pm so most likely it wont go out till tomorrow. :(
but needless to say its coming along. i got my hood latch yesterday and already have it on the car. just have to get the hood and then adjust the latch and HOPEFULLY my hood hinges will be OK! they look and feel good, so hopefully if anything i just have to take them off and bend them around a little.
and well i have been thinking of painting the primered parts in silver so its a closer match. still thinking about it. its not really needed but wouldn't be as noticeable for others..
i might just start primering the whole car since alot of the cars trim panels have bad paint..... mainly the skirts and side molding. and eventualy id have to fix some minor dings and light hail damage.
addiction2bass
08-12-2008, 03:08 PM
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!! i got the hood today ruffly 1-2hours ago now. just got done primer and sealing it. now i just need to let it dry a little more and then im gonna bolt it up on the car! i was so happy to see that big @ss truck pull up and drop off my hood! they shipped that sucker freight. i checked it out and signed for it and instantly took it out to prep for primer it ;)
hopefully in about an hour or less ill post up pictures with it installed on the car!
addiction2bass
08-12-2008, 06:07 PM
ok the important post with pictures.
so far so good! i will tweak the alignment a little more before i actually paint it but for now its pretty close. the drivers side lined up great no problems!!! but the passenger side/wrecked side does need a little tweaking. it had to have slightly tweaked the metal a little from the impact BUT not to worry. looks like mostly cosmetics. next week ill get a alignment done and be sure the car drives straight and true, as well as get the wheels balanced since they have had a little vibration.
i also need to but new headlights and a lower hood seal that runs along the front bottom of the hood to close that gap.
ok enough chat heres the pics.

just needs minor tweaking... i didnt want to go much tweaking until i got all the parts on the car. so tomorrow ill do some more tweaking on the front end to do the best i can. its close but just not perfect. but i am still missing the front bumper bracket brace on the passenger side, headlight seal on the passenger side is missing and the front hood weatherstriping isnt there. i have the 96seal but im not sure if it will fit or not. i havent tried yet since i need to clean it first due to all the mess on it.

so far ive spent $645.58 on the new body parts and radiator. so total spent on the car ive got about 1,400bucks in the car total. the car books 3,500bucks just in FAIR condition... excellent condition says $4,400. private party value... suggested retail says $5,500
so either way im WAY AHEAD in the total cost even as is...
i plan to spend another 150-200bucks to get the AC system working again. ruffly
140bucks for new timing belt/ other belts/ and water pump. since its about that time on the cluster.
150-200bucks on window tint ;)
100bucks for a new clutch setup just for the hell of it...
100bucks for 99-00 taillights.
maybe 50bucks for a new center audio console since mines busted up a little. or might just modify mine myself for a custom console setup.
ruffly 200bucks for new alarm/remote starter system.
ruffly 500bucks for new paint for the whole car along with all the body work ill be fixing myself which is cheap bondo and sandpaper....
and needless to say after all of that the car will be in excellent condition and will need very little!!!
but right now mainly i just want the AC fixed and timing belt stuff replaced and thats really all the car probably needs.
ive thought about heavy modifying the car which i still might.... maybe ill continue my old project ideas from my old civic like my suicide doors id love to do!!!!! should be extremly simple to do seeing how they are DX doors.LOL

tho i dont plan on doing alot of modifications cost wise to the car...
i think ill leave the suspension stock... maybe some 15inch SI wheels or just some nice 15s or 16s. tho aiming more for the SI wheels. but the suspension will stay stock until it blows and then i MIGHT replace it with some decent struts and some tein Stech springs. but thats as far as ill take it! not gonna buy koni/GC setup for this cheap car.LOL
and im still debating if i want to rip that muffler off and replace it with a stocker or not..... i definatly hate how it looks! and the sound is iffy IMO
right now im gonna go out and instal a kill switch. ive been meaning to do it i just havent yet...

ok another week alittle more improvement.... tho just towards the stereo right now ;) (hey whats my name...) i had to!
since im so happy with the two 12inch Alpine Type R subs i decided to keep rocken the R and this time i upgraded to a 15inch sub..... and i just reused my old custom box from my other civic and just cut the sub opening larger ;) ITS A TIGHT FIT but it does fit! sounds very nice.... but i havent been able to really tune it since there was a cop siting at my tuning spot so i didnt want a ticket.LOL and my radio antena must have worked loose alittle so i need to pull the radio out AGAIN and make sure its pluged in firmly... i also need to put some cds in my car! :(
the radio dash kit sucked! i had to file spots in the console where the metal cage mounted to so they would slide into the dash. :( that sucked!
and also the box i may clean it up... or i might just keep it as-is and build a new one.... so ya most likely ill build a new one. i made this one about 2years ago.

i was to busy reinstalling my radio/system and helping my dad and cousin replace 2 doors on our house. still replacing them today :(
theres alot of work involved in widening some doors, expetialy when your house has a stone exterior :(
later today or tomorrow ill do some SPLmeter testing and see how loud i can get this little 15 ;)

ok well new day more work, new plugs and RP oil change. tho i have noticed afew new things that need work. WORST.... im leaking brake fluid and it looks like its coming from a rear line looks like above the fuel tank or at least above the tanks cover :(
so ill have to eventualy drop the tank fix the leak, but for now its kinda slow so im not to worried about it.
also the boot on the passenger side axle is ripped open so eventualy ill replace that axle with a new one.
and last thing so far is the oil pan definatly took a hit at sometime and tho it doesnt leak it sure doesnt look good being punched in alittle so eventualy ill have to replace it with a new one.
also before oil change/tune up i got 35.6mpg from it. sounds real good so far! my 99ex typicaly got 28-30mpg, and 36mpg strictly highway mileage.
still no AC tho, so im sure as soon as i get the ac working the milage will drop some depending on actual use.

I've always liked performance over looks, go with the swap... Guess what, you cant even see the front bumper when driving! ;)
addiction2bass
09-02-2008, 12:16 PM
i could do alot of performance if i wanted to BUT im not looking to really race the car or burn rubber all the time. ive grown up past that stage of smoking the tires and racing people all the time! i got really tired of all the tickets and abuse the car was taking!!!!!
tires/insurance/tickets WHERE TO MUCH FOR ME TO KEEP PAYING FOR!
only reason i got a honda for was the killer MPG and reliability ;)
ive thought about doing a DOHC swap BUT thats a large chunk of change for my pocket book that i dont want to really spend! hell ive got like around 1K-1.5K bucks into this car so far. id double that price in the car if i did a motor swap.LOL
main thing im doing with the car is geting it close to stock with afew upgrades of course and then ill build off it anything else i decide to do!
im thinking of a color change to a gunmetal paint but not quite sure yet.... still deciding on if i want to go thru all the hassle of all the jams and engine bay for a mostly complete color change.... i dont like to half @ss the job BUT i wont be taking the car fully apart only trim pieces and carpet layed back enough to make it look like the car has stock paint. i hate cars with different color door jams!!!!!
next thing to be fixed on the car is the AC! parts are hopefully in the mail today! and next week ill have it recharged....
and i also ordered a cheapie short shifter... i dont throw the gears hard so it will hopefully hold up!
for some reason sometimes when going into reverse the shifter doesnt want to go back all the way so im hoping the short shifter will compensate and make it a smooth shift into reverse...
addiction2bass
09-06-2008, 06:00 PM
well a slight update.... i got the brake fluid leak fixed- it was just a simple loose hose conection on the front passenger caliper, covered by axle grease making it hard to find. just tightened the line alittle bit and its fixed now.
also i got my AC parts mostly except the new dryer which is either 80-105bucks from honda. he says their are 2 kinds so ill have to remove mine and compare the two next week or week after, depends on paycheck and this new job im trying to get ;)
i got a interview tuesday afternoon 2:30pm for brownsburg city street service. pay is great and from what i hear so is the job and health and retirement so i got my fingers crossed hard for the next few days hoping i get this new job so i can quite my weak @ss job...
and well i also got my new short shifter/knob/boot. ebay weak @ss stuff but so far works great, feels great, looks better. but i think its odd how only 3 of the stitches are red... odd :(
tho i must say its gonna take me awhile to get used to it tho. im used to the long throw so i gotta get used to a short shifter again.LOL also i hate the shift knob! but it was a combo action for all 3 for only like 35bucks. and i think the shifter is plastic just chrome plated.LOL so needless to say i have the stocker and tools in the car JUST INCASE i do snap that sucker... or ill just slide it in second gear and snail pace it home :(
and well if it breaks THEN ill update to skunk2 good stuff. eventualy i do want a weighted skunk2 shift knob tho.
well again enough chat. heres some pics.

in the future, i'd recommend these shift boots:
http://lightningautocustoms.com/Civic1996-2000.htm
the synthetic leather is amazing and the stitching is top quality. i could have sworn they sent me real leather but my friend showed me the difference
they also have A matching e-brake boot.
PM me (so i'll get the message for sure) if you want me to take pics of mine if you're interested in them

This place makes really good leather shift boots and their not very expensive:
http://www.redlinegoods.com/
I have the shift boot and the ebrake boot and they look great and fit very well too.
and I think thats the exact same shifter that I have. I got it in the package with the shifter and the knob. But the knob sucked so I just used my stock one.

well a little more work.
since the wheels i would like to put on the car are OEM SI wheels and im a cheap @ss right now.... well cheap is always good ;)
my hubcaps where total crap!!!! flaking away so after some wire brushing and cleaning, slaped some paint on and clear coat....

almost matches my moms crossfire.LOL
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/addiction2bass/96%20Civic%20DX/f4ba886b.jpg
also painted some stock center caps i bought awhile back. and doing the chapstick trick on the chrome H lettering. just waiting for the 2 wheels and caps and lugnuts as well to dry before i slap them on the drivers side of the car ;)
YES IM TO LAZY to do all 4 right now. i got my late Bday party at a friends house later tonight and i just dont have the time to do all 4....
so call it a great BEFORE/ AFTER version.LOL
and yes im thinking VERY HARD about painting the whole car like this gunmetal color next spring..... only downfall will be doing the complete gunmetal change since i dont want to half @ss it with the door jams and such. tho i will leave the engine bay as-is for awhile or at least until i pull the motor/tranny out to put in a new clutch then ill work on the engine bay paint to match, but till next spring it will look pretty much like this. ;)
25bucks and afew hours should make a nice improvement over flaky hubcaps. :)
ill post up installed pictures later when i get back from eating and they are good and dry to handle. i just put them out in the sun so hopefully when i get back they will be dry enough to install.

they do look better out in the sun..... they look just about black in the shade.
i guess i should have put these on the passenger side since the trim is chipped up so much from previous owner :( but its defiantly a improvement!
they would look better with the wheels cleaned and tires shine on them BUT i dont want to mess up the paint any with spraying that stuff around them at least for afew days.
and remember.LOL the passenger side still has weak @ss flaky hubcaps.LMFAO im to lazy/busy today to do all 4.

Tire pressure looks a little low there, buddy. Nice change though.
What happened to the primer on the driver's side front bumper?
addiction2bass
09-14-2008, 10:11 AM
hahahaha. mikes express car wash did it..... the guy that punches the machine and has the pressure washer to spray the front end to help presoat it im sure he did it on that corner! but i didnt really care.... i didnt sand the plastic bumper or use any kinda of special plastic primer or anything i just wiped it clean and sprayed it... it wasnt really that important to me.... i just didnt want a huge black bumper or black front end on my car.LOL
ill redue it all in the spring but till then the spray paint primer and sealer is good enough. im not worried about the bumper since well it cannt rust.LOL
and i dont think the air pressure is alittle low ya know some tires just seem to sag more than others... :( and they do seem like some cheapie tires on it.... typical previous owner only replaced the front 2 most likely from not rotating his tires and he cheaped out... the tires really suck in the rain! i found that out yesterday after the tire shop ballanced and rotated my tires i already had.... the cheapie STEEL BELTED tires look cheap and are horible in the rain!
i think what ill do before winter is get my 14inch steelies and get some good winter tires on them and then after ballanced paint them up the same way, and for the spring/summer go big and get some new SI 15inch rims and some good tires for them.
i think some 13inch snow tires would be cheaper BUT im thinking of the total plan if i ever decide/forced to sell the DX then id have some snow tires that would fit on my 99ex since the 13inch dx wheels wont fit. then id slap these weak @ss 13s on the dx and sell it that way and keep the SI wheels for my EX.
but for now i need to replace the passenger axle and get a alignment first before i get new tires... and the si wheels aint cheap so that might be what i spend my tax check on next year ;)

ITS A FREAKEN MIRACLE!!!!!!!!!!
my first honda that hasnt had alignment issues!!!!!
im shocked!!!!! no seized bushings, bad balljoints nothing im so happy!
now my 96dx is driving perfectly straight!
my rear toe was off both to the left so it was kinda pushing my car around alittle.
camber is moderatly high at -1.7 and -1.8 but i asume thats from a full tank of gas and my subwoofer back there...
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/addiction2bass/96%20Civic%20DX/ae0f7a9d.jpg
finally one civic without any problems! even the alignment guy was shocked with my past record of civics and alignments.LOL
my black99 had only 1 seized rear toe adjuster, and my old 94turd blue had just about ALL seized suspension! total nightmare!

ANOTHER DAY.... started my interior alittle.
redid headliner in some tweed i got from http://www.yourautotrim.com/prautw.html
i used SLATE tweed. i originaly bought it for my 99black civic BUT since im thinking of selling it ive decided to stop moding it all together!
well back to it. pulled headliner down and recovered it... and also painted afew pieces gunmetal since im thinking painting the exterior that color in the spring.
only thing i need to figure out is how to do the sunvisors.... and also im going to paint both sides of the upper side white panels to gunmetal as well.
for now i just painted the dome light, mirror cover, and O SH** handle ;)
i also left the side hanger hook off at least for now. i may put it back in eventualy and paint it as well. but i never use it so think i might just leave it off.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/addiction2bass/96%20Civic%20DX/96exhaust-3.jpg
now i just need a nice exhaust tip like i have on my 99. ;) and it will be good to go exhaust wise.
IMO sounds SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!!!! under 3K rpms and its almost silent and i hear the motor more than i do the exhaust now... :)
now im happy with the exhaust!!!! ive hated that 3aracing muffler since i first started that motor! and best of all now it doesnt sound like im freaken trying to race everybody.LOL
i must say tho I HATE HONDAS SPRING BOLT CLAMPS!!!!! talk about a HUGE PITA trying to get the bolts started! i got a new donute gasket for it as well and i probably screwed around with those dam spring bolts for about an hour!!! if i do anymore work on honda exhaust im gonna chop those dam nuts off and use some MUCH LONGER bolts with the springs. those stock bolts are just to dam short! 1/2inch longer and it would have been easy. but o no honda designer has to be a prick PITA! :(
civic4thewin
09-19-2008, 08:59 PM
I agree. I have done both my 99 civic and my brothers crx exhaust and they are such a pain. The last ones I had to modify because I couldn't get the bolt to reach far enough to thread the nut. So I feel your pain.
btw what did you use for the high temp paint? I really should do that to mine, rust here is horrible.
trustdestruction
09-19-2008, 09:43 PM
lol, i took off the spring bolts a long time ago and switched to regular bolts.
couldn't get my header to connect to my cat, i was forced to switch bolts
addiction2bass
09-20-2008, 05:20 AM
ya i would have just bolted it solid like i did my 99s header to cat as well BUT on the axle back there is nuts welded to the mid pipe..... :( and of course the special thread i didntn have any longer bolts that style :(
if i had some bolts that where 1/4-1/2inch longer it wouldnt have been a problem at all. :( o rmaybe if i didnt swap out the gasket that might have made it easier.
the high temp paint you can buy at autozone. they have 2 types a 500degree and a 1500degree. last time i tried the 500degree on my stock header, after awhile it kept burning it off so from now on im using the 1500degree stuff and hopefully that stuff will last longer! I HOPE! plus the dull black kinda makes the exhaust disappear under the car. ;)
i just need to buy a nice chrome tip for it and it will look nice enough for me.

another day more work ;) i got my alarm/starter system yesterday and just got done installing it.
http://i13.ebayimg.com/05/i/000/e8/ec/af5d_1.JPG
yes on a manual ;) no worries man. no one else ever touches my keys! well besides the tire shop and alignment shop those are the only two and thats what valet mode is for ;)
and i never leave the car in gear so its all good!
only one downfall so far..... stupid door triggers isnt protecting the passenger door :( so ill have to jump the passenger door trigger so they work together. very hard to find the door trigger wires in the main harness! :( so im gonna go directly to the pin pretty soon!
next thing to do is try to add power locks..... i just gotta find them. i got a few laying around somewhere!

i keep pulling off alittle pin strip off at a time.LOL eventualy ill have all the pin striping off and be sticker free! ;) it just depends how bored i am at the time.... ya can only pick so much off at a time.LOL
also just got me a exhaust tip ;) chopped down the pipe to hide it further back.... tho its hard to get the tip straight :( right where the tip clamps to the pipe bends there.... so ill have to buy some exhaust adaptors to make the pipe go further back so the clamps are straight. dont have any free cash right now for anything else. not to bad but could be better!

it will look like my 99 does.

its getting better by the day... but for the next month no change will be made cosmetically to the car. only upgrade now will be replacing the axle with the busted boot.
im gonna take alittle time off from moding the car to pay off some bills that have been adding up from the car work :(
i might recover the door panels in matching tweed and maybe the arm rest but thats all really.

Man do I know. I've actually sprayed a newer Ford with my shot gun. =P WE just moved in out here in the country, and my family left state to visit friends. I had work, so I stayed behind. I live on a dead-end street. And one night this Ford comes rolling in. Has a side search light, and starts scoping out my property. Turns off all his lights, and gets out, and starts walkin around my house, trying to open the windows. Little did he know, I was trying to find ammo for the shotty. =P Threw 6 rounds in, walked out and let one go to scare him. He RAN to the truck as I started to pepper his truck.
STILL have burnout marks ALL the way down the driveway, and where he turned and took off down the street. =) =) =)

took off the door panel and kinda fixed the busted arm rest section... and recovered the arm rest as well.

tho oddly enough 1 of the kits doesnt have the cone tip at the end... not sure if that will be a issue or not. but the other 2 kits do.
also there wiring blows kinda. on one side the wiring has a harness to plug into the stock wiring which is a plus, BUT for the power going into the ballasts well on the 4 wires 3 of them are male terminals and only 1 is female..... so i have to cut 2 of the wires to crimp them together since a male and a male besides gay wont fit together.LOL
but i guess i got what i paid for..... i only paid just under 200bucks for all 3 bixenon kits. i bought 3 so i can do both of my civics and the 3rd for a backup just incase i ever have any problems then i have a extra kit just in my closet to quickly fix the problem.
well i gotta go test out one side and then help my dad work on the motor home. afterwards ill try to instal them on the 96dx. hopefully as is good......

are you sure they sent all the right stuff?
it looks like in the pic, only one box of the 3 says bi-xenon on it, and that box also happens to be the one with no cones in the bulbs

well they are all bixenon. they all have the built in magnet and tiny wiring on them.
i sent him a email and see what he says.... i dont think it will be a huge issue because the headlights do have a front cone kinda so it shouldnt make a big difference....
and right now im just waiting for the sun to go down now to get some nite shots and adjust them better. so far im pretty happy with them. tho i do hate the headlights.LOL i need to buy some oem black style headlights, seal them up and slap them on the 99 civic and put those chrome oem style headlights on this 96dx civic.
i have to eventualy slap the second set onto the 99 pretty soon as well! it just has standard hids with the weak @ss halogen high beam.

ok well been awhile since i updated anything.....
havent been able to do much with all the packing for my parents motor home... they are gone to florida now so now i have enough time to work on my car BUT still trying to get some money to buy the parts i want/need to keep worken on it :(
right now im finally pieced together everything i need to convert my 96 air controls to 99-00. i bought the complete air box and wire harness, and vents from local parts yard tho i did break a flapper on it when pulling the unit but luckely i was able to glue it back together and so far the fix looks like it should work! i hope it holds... if not ill have to try and find another electronic heater section. but it looks like it should hold just fine, luckely it wasnt a clean break and it kinda had a cone snap from the center shaft.
tomorrow ill drop my dash out and swap out my whole blower unit...
at least my ac wont be a problem since i never put it back together and recharged it yet.LOL tho i do have to mess with the heater core :(
only thing im missing for the swap is the radio bezel which SUPPOSEDLY SHOULD be at my house monday!
but i can at least get the whole blower unit in and just wait for the radio bezel to come in the mail.
i hope this swap goes smoothly!
after this swap ill swap out my front seats with the 99 civic front seats and then the ONLY THING left to make my 96 look just like a 99 will be the rear seats. ;)
guess good thing i kept those 99 seats out from my old 94civic after all....
and next paycheck i buy primer and bondo to start the body work on the 96 and check after that will be the paint and clear, hopefully ill have most the body work done by then.... im gonna try one more thing before i actualy use filler is the dry ice to try and pop out some of these small hail dents on the roof and trunk lid. i dont plan on it working completly but every little drop of bondo not used is worth it IMO!
paints the main thing this car really needs right now!

ok well today i got my 96system removed. tho afew wires on the dash that are being a PITA so i couldnt fully remove the dash to do all the work. mainly wires from my alarm system... but o well. still enough room to get what needed to be done for 1 afternoon.
and my repair that i THOUGHT would be good on the new heater box was not good after all.... good thing i checked before i slapped it all in!!!!!! luckely my old 96 box uses the same components for the most part... so i was able to pull the 2 boxes apart and just swap out the flapper that broke.... unfortunately when i removed the 99s air controls i didnt know there was a bolt on the back side/firewall engine compartment that holds the box inplace from the rear :( and i busted it off unfortunately.
tomorrow ill try to cut off my good mount section and try to glue it to the new box. hopefully it will be enough for a firm mount...
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/addiction2bass/96%20Civic%20DX/heater%20upgrade%2099-00/73710115.jpg
and thats the flap that goes over the heater core so if i didnt fix it could really screw up the heater/ac features!
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/addiction2bass/96%20Civic%20DX/heater%20upgrade%2099-00/0026a12c.jpg
got the old flapper inplace and everything screwed back together ready to go in.
and yes duct taped BUT thats because the 99 i got it from was a 4door that had air vents ran down the bottom that flow to the back under the seats. mines a coupe so i dont need lower rear air... so i slapped some duct tape over it and put that solid flap inplace and then duct taped it again to hopefully keep it inplace.... if it ever falls off then ill glue that sucker solid. but not right now my back is killen me from contorting my body so much.LOL

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/addiction2bass/96%20Civic%20DX/heater%20upgrade%2099-00/b98922e5.jpg
tomorrow ill slap it all together, and HOPEFULLY my honda dealership will have those 2 heater hoses instock... since i never reuse old hoses!
hopefully all works good and ill have my 96 converted over to 99-00 style! :D
only thing im still not positive on is how to wire the defroster... i have to try and find that info... tho the defroster isnt a huge deal because I THINK thats for the rear defroster and i park my car in the garage so i dont have a problem with freezing over in the mornings ;)
eventualy ill find the info i need to rewire it properly.... if i have to i can always just slap the stock96 switch under the dash.LOL
anyone need the blower/resistor unit for a 96-98 civic or heater controls? ;) i dont need them anymore....

im also replacing the stock seats with those 99 seats... now i just need to look out for a rear matching seat..... anyone need some 96-98 seats ;)

anyone have some ex rear seats for a coupe?
i need this style....

OK DAY 2... i have the new unit installed now. have the dash put back in MOSTLY.
everything works good so far BUT the dealership didnt have those heater hoses instock so they had to order them..... HOPEFULLY they will come in tomorrow and ill finish everything....
only downfall is the bottom mounts for the 99-00 controls dont bolt up to anything... im not sure if theres a brace i could just buy so it bolts up.... ill compare them when i pull my radio out of my 99ex to swap the radio into the 96dx if the guts look the same and the brace is interchangable then ill go back to the pullapart and buy the brace. BUT if not ill just use some heavy duty zip ties and use them to hold the metal bracing tight against the metal skeleton! it will hold it just fine im sure! but ill find out tomorrow when i swap the radios.

and if you ever drop your air box.... be sure to clean out the debri before installing the unit!!!! mine had TONS of debri in it..... im glad i cleaned it out otherwise it would have been alot of odd noises with the blower turned ON! and no one likes rattling leaves sounds when you turn the air on! LOL

11-24-2008, 11:01 PM
Sooo, are you doing to swap just to have it look like a 99-00? or does it make extra space?? LOL, It looks like a crazy ton of work to change the look....
...oh, wait, I may or may not do the same thing all the time.
Keep her up! Are you getting a screen in that slot or something?

11-25-2008, 02:49 AM
well im not buying another screen... but im swaping my alpine DD unit into this 96dx...
its actualy not a bunch of work... it looks worse than it is! if i didnt have my alarm system it would have been easy to pull the dash.... tuffest part IMO is those heater hoses on the firewall! i hate those spring clamps!!!!!
after i finish this up im going to be striping the 99ex and put it back stock as much as posible! then i can drive it thru the winter while i start working on the body work on this 96dx.
so paint is coming up pretty soon ;)
o ya im also swaping in my spare 99ex front seats into this 96dx. im going for the full 99-00 swap. only thing im missing for the complete swap is the back seat. after i do that no one will ever know its a 96dx they will think its a 99-00dx ;)
main thing that sucks is i have to clean out the paint booth before i can use it :(
ITS FULL!!!!!

O CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!! good news and bad news.....
1good news my new heater hoses came in today.
2good news i have it all swaped over now...
BAD NEWS my sirius satelite radio isnt working.... it says aquiring.... and then the stations pop up but no names or song :( i have to play around alittle with it to make sure but i think i lost my free sirius radio :( so i might have to start paying for it again....... SON OF A *****!!!!!!!!!! this blows thats like 13bucks a month i was saving!!!! im hoping just a cable came unpluged but i think when i disconected the power harness it reset itself. :(
and i also have the front seats installed tho i had to pull apart the drivers seat to replace the outter rail that wouldnt lock into place.... just swaped the stock 96 rail onto it no problems now. but i also had to pull apart the top of the seat and put the seats frame in a vise and get a BFHammer to it over and over to get it straightened out... when the seats where in my old 94eg civic it leaned back in the middle of the car. i thought it was just the seat rails seing how they didnt bolt up anyways.... but NOPE turns out the seat frame was bent SOMEHOW...... i dont know HOW it got bent from previous owner but it was. i got it straight enough now where i cant really feel a lean to it... i just have to get used to the lumbar in the car... gotta try and set it right....
i also put in my 2color lighted climate controls tho ONE DOWNFALL..... apartently when i soldered all the leds into the AC/REC/DEF indicators in backwards :( because non of the 3 light up with them pluged in :( so eventualy ill have to unsolder those 3 and reverse them :( good thing i have extra controls.

LMFAO YEAH!!!!!! still have to do some minor tweaking to my amplifier and internal settings but so far so good!
today i also bolted the old radio into my 99ex since well it needs a radio...
next ill pull out the led cluster and swap it into the dx to put the 99 back stock.
ill slowly pull most my toys off the 99ex. right now im just waiting on payday so i can buy the primer and filler and some dry ice to experiment with, then i can start the body work..... just need to put the stock suspension back on the black civic so i can drive it in the snow.

ya its a alpine double din unit.... dvd player, ipod direct cable, 6.5inch screen. sirius radio. i love the unit! its alittle older but still very nice unit... the newer models have video ipod capabilities.... id like to have that but dont want to spend another 700+bucks just for that upgrade.... :(
and i dont know how the seat got twisted but i got them that way.... they definatly are not suposed to be like that!!!!! it was seriously twisted.... i ended up crushing the tubing alittle when i was beating the hell outta it to try and twist it back to normal!
how ever it got bent it took alot of work to bend it! either a really fat guy doing some hardcore leaning.... or someone really strong in the back seat that wanted out from the back and pushed really hard on the outter side that twisted the seat.LOL
but i got it bent back pretty close to it feels fine with me sitting in the seat now!

o well mine was hardcore leanen!
that was one of the main reason why i removed them from my old 94eg and replaced them with stock seats.... i thought it was just the seat rails not made for that civic.... turns out that sucker was just seriously twisted.LOL i tried to man handle the sucker to straighten out BUT that didnt work very much at all... it slightly bent back but no where near enough.... so i had to pull the fabric and foam to really get down to work.
i would sell the unit... BUT i want 500bucks shipped for it. no sat radio tuner included tho ;)
will come with everything...... 2 plastic bezels. one new one trimmed to decently fit 99 bezel. new metal cage for mounting. wire harness with 96-00 wire harness attached. ;)
i wanna upgrade to there newer IVA-W505 dvd unit. its a tiny bit larger screen and afew more updated toy options ;)

how all does it work? where do the CD's load? is it just that unit seen in the dash that's all you need? would it include the iPod cable? What does it look like while controlling the iPod, and does it control the iPod from the headunit? Can you change all of those backgrounds and stuff on the headunit screen? I wouldn't need the bezels.
I may have to buy that from you someday... it'll be a while though if i ever buy it from you. I would really want to do this with that unit:

i cannt view the thread...
sure id throw in the ipod direct cable. it plugs into your ipod just like the computer cable. charges and is controled by the radio directly..
and to change the cd/dvd you push the eject button and the screen tints and folds down to acess the cd.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toJ7VInjZak
the bezel is the plastic piece that goes around the face.
and the background is changable from this site i found awhile back.... upload your photo and usualy within a week its uploaded. and then you simply burn the few images documents from that site onto a cd and load it thru the dvd player in the radio ;)
http://www.pride-rock.com/forum/apnlist.php
you got 2 images you can have uploaded at the same time. and they change every ON/OFF or you can set it to the one you like. i have my black99 pictured in one and another with vampire eyes right now ;)
and well i dont have enough cash for another radio anyways.LOL i could use my next tax check BUT i want to spend it on NEW OEM SI wheels and tires.... ;)

ill try to get a better video of it outside in the sun tomorrow.

hmm, well the flip lid over the stereo on the del sol can be removed from the console. I wonder if I took out the flip lid if it would fit.
I really like how nice that thing flips out, it looks like a really nice solid unit.

heres another video.... its alittle clearer but still not perfect... i blame my camera.LOL i need to buy a real video camcorder! my camera takes OK video but not good. time for upgrade for it eventualy ;)
i hate it mainly because when i record my bass it picks up mostly highs and hardly any bass!
as you can see my mirror jumpen hardcore and i have it zip tied tight from and back.LOL but yet the audio just picks up the voices so it sounds like my bass is very weak when its not! :(

ok well one bit of good news is i got a OEM cat converter and my wire extenders. ill instal it in afew days after i finish gutting my 99civic. since i need a car to drive plus i need the header off it ;)

it looks good at least... paid like 100bucks for it.... but i figure its better than a aftermarket cat since its OEM.....
now i just need to take it to autozone and find a matching flange for it so i can weld it on my dx piping. im just hoping i can remove my 2ndary o2 sensor!!!!! i have one spare used sensor already since my 1st sensor is damaged and the wires are verly hanging on with a drop of solder so i know its not worth trying to reuse!
i also got my primer in the mail, tho i still need to buy some reducer for it.... i forgot to order it.
i also bought some filler and plastic promoter spray for when i spray the bumper cover and fix the dings and some hail damage. im hoping the filler is enough to fix everything.
i also just bought some other toys... which i think im going to do before i do the paint of course....
suicide door hinge kit.

they are having alittle sale and i had alittle free cash plus ive REALY WANTED SUICIDE DOORS FOR THE LONGEST TIME!!!!!
so as soon as i get those hinges im gonna start riping apart the passenger side of the car and start planing it out. so looks like ill be pushing back the paint work until after im done with the suicide doors. ;) im sure it will be worth the wait!

ive only seen a few civics with suicide doors. thats another thing i love to be alittle different. and plus i just hate lambo doors!
at least most cheap kits ive seen on hondas and scions only give you like 4inches to squize thru the door with it fully open and they wobble!
these are the pictures ive seen first one was really pathetic!!!! they guy must have cheaped out and only bought 1 side! he only freaken used 1 hinge per side and then he complained about having to hold his door up some when closing it.... sure he did the dam thing was saging like crazy with only one hinge.LOL and he didnt do any metal work up front! weak job!

ive been in love with suicide doors ever since i had my old truck. i shaved its door handles but never able to do the suicide doors. tho im going to keep my outter door handle stock looking and just run some cables over to it.... tho not sure how ill do the lock... i need to check out those latches when i get them.... ill find out some way to lock out the latches if i have to put door popers on the car and wire up some switches to get triped by the stock handle. either way ill figure out something!

I LOVE EM! i just want some finished pictures..
tho his dont look like the doors would open all the way... looks like the hinges should be sunk in more. maybe im wrong...
either way i plan on finishing it out completely! the back side will be easy since i can do all the bracing on the inside hidden, toughest part for me will be finishing off the fender area.... i defiantly dont want to be able to see the back of the splash guard! but ill work it out.

I think his only opens like 90 degrees.
He hasn't done anything to this civic in a loooong time. He sold the 07 front end he was gonna put on it, and is selling the chromed out engine parts, along with the turbo now. I doubt hell do anything to it for a while.
Anyways, suicide doors are totally the way to go!! Besides this guys, I've never seen anyone with them anywhere around here.

im probably gonna upgrade the latches before i do the instal tho.... i want to upgrade them to the power latches. mainly to kill 2 birds with 1 stone ;)
http://www.thehoffmangroup.com/autoloc/product.lasso?prodinc=bearclaw
110bucks for the 2 small power latches. thats not to bad at all seeing how adding solinoids can be a PITA to line everything up. a complete unit is well worth the hassle thats for sure.... might be able to find them alittle cheaper. but right now i have to pay for afew things on my 99civic. i need to buy 2 tires/alignment/and have ac system charged properly. then the 99civic goes for sale and hopefully sells.... and then ill be have quite a bit of cash to buy all the little things all at once. i get paid friday so ill get the tires/alignment and maybe the ac fixed, depends on there quote for the ac.
Hey Addiction2bass, I have reading your garage and now ur project thread and I would like to know how to fix the front of my car like yours. How you replaced/fix the parts to front bumper and head lights?
Of course I just started reading this project thread. I haven't got through it yet

ok well its been awhile since ive done any real work to the civic. ive been getting parts here and there.
and lately ive been really tired of the primered front end look so i bought some silver spray paint and clear and started spraying her down. only have the front fenders done so far... i need 2 more cans of paint before i can do the hood and bumper cover.
i also installed some black headlights on the civic because the old ones i had where ugly as hell up close.
and i also replaced the jacked up splash guard and put in a stock air box since my old one was all jacked up with the wreck. and replaced the radiator fluid reserve tank and bracket since it was also damaged. also replaced both front bumper cover brackets around the headlights and the drivers side fender bracket from a 99 civic which makes the fender fit so much better now!
im just scooping up parts here and there from craigslist and my local pullapart junk yard.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e250/addiction2bass/96%20Civic%20DX/civicfenders-2.jpg
i know its not a perfect match but what can ya do.... it was just a standard silver spray cans i got and still its ALOT closer than grey primer/sealer ;)
now i just have to buy some stripper for the bumper cover so i can have a clean start and this time use the plastic promoter before i primer them this time.
i havent ditched the project completly even tho i do have it listed localy for sale on craigs.... but thats because bills are tight and credit cards are very close to being toped out :(
i have my car show coming up soon and im really not sure which vehicle i want to take to the show... i mainly go for the stereo competition but my trucks stereo is very lacking right now. so i think i might be taking the civic since the single 15 and 600watts just kills my trucks 2 12s and 1200watts :(
so i think ill have a better shot with the civic. even tho i should just install my high power alternator because now with the jbl bp600.1 amplifier sucks ALOT OF JUICE!!!! the other day i was bumping going home and the next day the battery was to dead to start so i had to roll the car out the garage and drop the clutch to get it fired up. :(
so tomorrow ill be finally finishing the other door panel with the tweed. since its the only panel i havent recovered yet. ive just been to lazy.

o ya also gotta either paint the wheels or slap on these hubcaps i got for it... not to sure just yet which way ill go with. im thinking of just painting the steelies silver.

ok second body panel sprayed now just waiting till it drys really good before i handle is since i have to install it myself and fresh paint chips to easily.LOL hopefully i wont chip it to much if any putting it back on.
so far so good at least. tho i ran out of paint and autozone near me doesnt have any of the same paint code can so ill have to look else where for another can to do the bumper cover and grill.
and o ya i used my first spray paint project to help me out.LOL my really old basket ball goal that hasnt been used in over a decade. hahahaha at a young age i found out that 2 different types of paint made a sweet looking spider web effect.LOL tho alot of it has worn down in age.

ill never need that extra clearance since i like my civic slow. i like max MPG. i got my truck for my grunt force but it LOVES GAS way to much! :(
thats why im forced to drive my civic all week till payday since im broke and gas is freaken almost 3bucks already!
i still plan on painting the civic so this is just a TEMP since im really tired of the primer look.
unless someone buys the car that is. im still not sure about the paint color. silver will be very easy since no jams to match but wont look as good.
if i do gunmetal i would be keeping it since so much time would be put into it matching all the jams. so ill just be stuck with slowly trying to pay off the credit cards.

thanks. it turned out pretty good. im just waiting for my dad to come back from florida so he can sow me up a tweed shift boot and ill also do the center arm rest also to match if i can get it to stretch enough. i have a experimental lid that ill try it with first. i might have to add some padding to square it out alittle more and then cover and sow it up on the sides.
man get those side moldings painted!! those things look rough.
they are painted. LMFAO just most of it is falling off! previous owner did a horible job! even the side skirts really suck. i have some smooth red painted ones that im going to scuff and paint to match. since i dont want to have to sand that skirt down smooth.
All it needs is to be vacuumed and get some honda hubcaps.
i do have some hubcaps... well center caps. ;)
i do have some 99-00 hubcaps BUT they are mostly scratched up and one is missing some chunks. so im just goint to wait and paint them to match also. i just got some lug nuts for them last week at the junk yard.
im still trying to decide which way ill like the most... painted steelies with the center caps or painted hubcaps.
but first thing i need is 2 good tires for the 14inch steelies. ive got 13s on the front and 14s on the rear but the tires suck on the 14s i already have. ive got 3 more 14inch steelies but all have horrible tires and i dont trust them.
and after running my next paycheck i wont have enough to get the ac filled. so ill just buy the plastic safe paint stripper and primer again and spray paint for the front bumper. the rest of my cash goes to gas and groceries after i pay all my bills. :(
and i also have to buy some copper piping so i can fix the water pipes out in the shop that froze and busted this last year.... this way i can start the body work out in the shop with water.LOL otherwise i have to buy a 100ft garden hose to run it out to the shop.LOL

funny thing is i stripped most of the old primer/sealer off with just a garden hose ;)

hopefully that sanding the bumper cover and the plastic promoter will do the trick and not flake off anymore.... at least until i do the full paint job.

You can rent the vacuums at most auto zones for the a/c. I already had a gauge set and just bought some 134a at PepBoys. Might save you some money. I cant seem to find any info on how to install an a/c kit. I have a complete Integra kit to add a/c to my Civic, but have no clue how.

ya ive thought about doing it myself but i dont have the dual gauges to really check the pressure and all. plus id rather just have a shop do it since they can test it out properly and if it fails ill be back for them to fix it.LMFAO

Dude, that was some awesome primer. I'd get your money back, lol.
Glad to see the front coming together. Are you gonna black out the lower grille, or is that too much masking work?
that was because i just opened up the new bumper cover cleaned and sprayed it. i didnt sand or use the plastic promoter. this time i did both! :)

Wow...that bumper looks clean. My paint is chipping off the front and i wanna strip it off and just leave it as black rubber (how my car initially came). What is this bumper stripper you're talking about and where can i get it?

The funny thing is, that paint job you did yourself looks better than any one spot of the paint on my entire car.
Please come paint my bumper for me :)
I tried to do it and failed horribly... I couldn't get it to shine. And I tried hard too! I sanded all the old paint off, repainted it, and clear coated it too.

What is this bumper stripper you're talking about and where can i get it?
its a plastic bumper stripper. i got it from my local automotive paint supply shop. you can probably go to any auto collision paint shop and ask them if you can buy some from them.
but if its your OEM baked on paint it says it wont remove that baked on paint.
I tried to do it and failed horribly... I couldn't get it to shine. And I tried hard too! I sanded all the old paint off, repainted it, and clear coated it too.
and tho the paint looks shiny trust me it will never shine like a real paint job will!!!!! its decent but by no means worthy of true show.LOL ill still be painting the car as long as it doesnt sell that is which doesnt look like it since im not trying to give the car away ;)
i just keep pushing back the paint date..... i have about 56hours of vacation time left that im trying to use for when im going to paint the car. so ill be getting it ready for paint before i take my vacation and have it almost worthy for paint before i take the time off to really sand my balls off on this car.LOL
ill post pics of it on the car here in a few mins. just got home from work so time to go put it on the car.

ok well slapped together. looks better. ;) now i just have to remove the side trim and paint it and the rockers. tho im just gonna quick job them just spray with paint and clear. with only promoting the side trim pieces since ill reuse them. but not the rockers since i have smooth ones ill be swapping them for later when i do the whole paint job.
at least it doesnt look AS BAD.... it shouldnt get laughed at AS MUCH at my car show ;)
dang it. i forgot to turn off that date crap again on my camera! :(

Looks pretty dang clean. MUCH better than wrecked or primer.

Effin clean adicition EFFIN CLEAN lol
once you paint those trim peices your car is set lol until the main paint job of course... but dam that came out niice and heaadlights look much better with a solid front end color haha
Edit lol : and dam i know that tint is illegal haha what tint you got on there?

Is that just the silver and no clear?

06-16-2009, 12:36 PM
LOL ya the silver i painted it with is a metalic. not sure if the stock silver is metalic or not, but the car has been repainted before so im not even sure if that silver is the right stock color or not... main reason why i didnt just buy stock silver paint when i first replaced the front end.
o ya and i do plan on painting the lower grill black and geting some fog lights also for the car. i tried to strip the paint off the grill part but it wouldnt all come off so i just said screw it ill just paint it for now and after the paint is dry enough ill tape it off and spray a flat black paint in there.
i do like the looks of it alot better than primer.LOL but its just not as bad. not good yet.
maybe next month ill start busting my @ss and start the body work and cleaning it all down for paint.
i also have a 99-00 rear bumper as well ill be swapping on the car. but right now its black and i really dont feel like painting it! so the stock 96-98bumper will do.

o trust me its just the dark weather. that tint is very lame and light! i want it to be all stripped and tinted 35%front windshield, 15-20% on side front windows, and 5% on the side back windows and the rear window.
right now i think its only 20% on the windows but no tint on the drivers window. it was from wisconsin and i believe thats legal with the drivers window now tinted any :(
and its silver and cleared rattle can job.
but the headlights look alot better alone seeing how they care good black headlights other than my old homemade/ painted black headlights i had on it. but no one wants the old headlights since shipping is freaken about 30-35bucks which isnt worth it IMO in there condition. i figure ill just put them locally on craigs and see if anyone wants em for 5bucks.lol
thanks for the complements guys. shes getting better looking little by little..... id paint the trim pieces today BUT it keeps raining on and off so cannt really do much. i dont want to fume up the garage or shop with paint fumes.

ok well did a QUICK paint on the trim pieces. defintly not pretty. im going to completly strip them when i do the full job so i just did a quick scuff and shoot only on the worst spots....

o ya. a few friends said its a beater and not worth 3K but i keep telling them its just cosmetics and not that bad really. its still pretty low milage with only about 80K miles.
but it will feel EVEN BETTER AFTER i do the whole paint job color change!!!!
after i paint it ill defiantly be keeping the civic!!!! i have the high build primer already, the light body putty to fill what hail spots i need to fill. but first ill try the DRYICE trick and see if it works! i figure even if it helps JUST ALITTLE BIT. its worth it to use less bondo!!!!!
i just need the gunmetal paint and clear and then ill start the real work. stripping the cars going to suck really bad but it will be well worth the effort for the complete job! after thats done ill be nuttin in my pants and hopefully so will others ;)
then its new ground controls for my konis and some SI wheels and tires. and then it will be golden for me.
just because im happy with the stock drivetrain.
then the only trick i might pull out my butt is the suicide doors. ;) no idea when ill do that.

LOL well not really good pictures. its storming like a mofo out there now and to dark.
at first i tried silver BUT after i sprayed it and stuck it on the car it looked like crap IMO so i quickly repainted it gunmetal and then did the rest.
i took a picture of it with my cell phone but my phone is taking forever to email me my picture. ill post the silver later. but i didnt like it... so this is what i got now.

and when i get enough cash ill get 2new tires for the other 14inch steelies i have. right now the fronts are 13s and the 14s are in the rear. ;) i had 2new 14tires before BUT when i traded my black civic i gave him those good wheels :(
eventually ill get all new tires since it sure wouldnt hurt. and ill have to repaint them again since they always screw up my paint by removing and puting on new wheel weights. balancing the wheels.
of course i dont need the 14s yet BUT i hate these DX brakes so i want to swap out my front brakes to EX brakes. the main downfall is my DX has ABS brakes which is good option but not so common so hard to find a civic with abs at the yards. :(

right now im guessing my DB score... ruffly 138DB since thats about what my db meter is telling me. but time will tell when i get some LEGAL meter time tomorrow at the show ;) im hoping for another trophy!
last year i got 140.1db with my old front firing 12inch sub with about 1200watts.
this year its one 15inch sub and only 600watts.

ok well good and some bad news.
the news in order. washed the civic. then found out my exterior AC motor burned out in the electrical storm last night on the house. so now im waiting for the repair guy to show up. he told me he could rush me a guy over in the next half hour or so, so now im hoping he wasnt pull sh**in me and them come out quick! qualifications for my DB Drag end at 4pm and right now its 11:30 so hopefully he can come out swap it out and leave quickly!!!!!
and i can make it by 3pm since they have the hydrolic show at 4pm also and i love seeing it every year.
it sucks that the fan burned out! i dont want to have to go out to the shop and sleep there.... it has ac out there.
but anyways heres the pics you want.

and well with the AC NO LUCK... of course my ac blower is model specific and they dont stock it so i have to wait till monday at least IF there warehouse has them instock otherwise even longer. :( this sucks.... but at least its only 82 degrees in my room now. i turned everything off in my room while i was gone even my mini fridge. :(
and well i did pretty good in the DB Drag but there was alot of people in my class so not that great 8th. dam 15inch subwoofer and me having to have the motor running put my in street max which had alot more vehicles in this year. i think it was like 20people in my class :(
i guess well find out who all shows up tomorrow for the semi and final rounds since some people just want to know how loud they are. i wont get a trophy im sure since its only 1,2,3rds but ill have my scores recorded online.
i should have stuck with 120-129.9bassrace but i said hell with it ill go all out and just keep it maxed.
EDIT BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO BUMP THE THREAD BUT IT IS THE END OF THIS PROJECT BUILD. DUE TO CREDIT CARD BILLS AND ME WANTING THEM PAID OFF I SOLD THE CIVIC TODAY 7-18-09
I GOT 2,800BUCKS FOR IT WITHOUT THE REAR BASS.
at least i saved one riced out smashed civic from the scrap metal yard and gave it another chance at life.
i believe the car is in good hands.

hey so how many cans of primer, paint, and clear did you go through? I'm heading home for the week from college cause my hood is rusting bad. I plan on pretty much doing what you did until i can do a legit paint job. Any extra info would help

for the hood. ruffly 2 cans primer, 2 cans sealer, 2 cans paint and 2cans clear.
thats what i used. well actually i only used 1 can of clear on the hood BUT it wasnt enough to lay even so i should have used 2 but i only had one at the time.

i know im posting on a very old thread but I was gone for a little over half a year, I just caught up on everything I missed, you did some amazing work on that car it was fun watching it come along and seeing how you can save a civic, gives me lots of hope for the ridiculous things I see being done to nice cars everywhere haha.

thanks.... and ya i am looking for a project civic now 96-00 just alittle.
worst thing that is hurting me is the MPG difference from a civic to my fullsize truck. that kinda sucks at the gas pump ALL THE TIME. so i am thinking of looking every now and then for a project if i can find one cheap enough.
my only real big bill to pay off now is my new bigscreen tv i got afew months ago. 2K bucks. so im paying on it now but plan on puting my tax check straight towards it and knocking a huge chunk outta it.
