Mechanical Problems & Technical Chat - brakes suck

i have looked around many forums and not found a solution to my problem. i hve a 2005 VP civic, no ABS with really poor brake feel. feels like the brake pedal travels several inches before starting to effect the brakes. kind of feels "mushy" as if they had a lot of air in the system. Honda mech says they're ok. honda bled the brakes with no difference. i also have an 05 crv-ex 4 whl disc/abs & the brakes are fine. only 26,000 on it, super clean car was my moms. don't want to get rid of it, but cant stand the "mush". i don't think its just me. any ideas??? anyone else with this year/model notice this?:confused: would really appreciate some help.

thanks. seems that it could be, but its been like that ever since new... might run it by the honda shop again & ask them to check that.

if you have the same symptoms as when it was under warranty, I would take it to the dealer and ask them to replace the master cylinder for free since it's a unresolved problem. it should not feel mushy at all.

Definitely check your MC and look into some new brake lines as well.

that spongey feeling of the brake pedal is air trapped inside the lines.. you either need to bleed just only the brake lines or if you do that and its still bad you need to "bench" bleed the master cylender..... buy a 1 man brake bleeder kit at autozone for 6 bucks it will do the job perfect.. use clean fluid and should only take an hour.... hardest part is taking off the wheels

After bench bleeding you'll need to bleed the lines too. Being as you have to disconnect them to bleed the M/C.
Something else to check- Have someone push brake pedal. Watch the rubber brake lines. If you see one that expands, that will cause a mushy pedal and could eventually rupture and cause brake failure. Lots of chems can braake down a rubber hose.
