As someone posted here a few days ago, Sacramento county has just received a huge chunk of money to combat "illegal street racing". As many of you know, I do not agree with street racing, though I admit i have done my share in the past. thats done now. the real problem with this is the fact that they are not just hunting down people at the illegals anymore. now it is considered to be probable cause to search a car for "illegal modifications" if it has stickers, a high spoiler, or visible extra guages." and they are having roadside checkpoints. they pull everyone in an import over and pop their hoods. its getting rediculous. I need anyone in Cali who wants to stop this here and now, before it spreads to a city near you, to get me on AIM, and im going to spend a couple of hours doing research. any help I can get would be appreciatted. and if anyone knows any cops or lawyers in CA, defineately hit me up with a way to contact them. And see what street racing has done? it has now made it so that cops can justify to the public, the pulling over and random searches of imports, simply because they are imports. My recommendation to everyone here is to stop street racing, and try to get as many people to stop in your areas, because this isnt going to stay exclusive to Sacramento.

if you do, you just go to the Referee and they can test it, then you get a nice piece of paper that you can show cops down the road, showing its legal.

I got pulled over the other morning fo exhaust noise, and tha fag checked out everything in my car. Popped my hood, asked about EO numbers for my IC piping. Asked about EO numbers for my brakes. Asked if my lights are legal. Asked if I had NOS. Then told me he was going to have to write me up for my "heads up display" I was like WTF, I dont have a heads up display. He pointed to my screen, and I looked at it and asked, "this?" Yeah. This is not a heads up display, it is a navigation unit and it is a driving aid. He said I couldnt have it there though. I told him I bet the lawyers at a lil company called Pioneer would disagree.
He ended up writing me for the exhaust noise, so I call the state REF to make an appointment to get the Db test and the lady making the appointment asks me to read the VC (violation code) to her. I read it and she says are you sure. I say yup and she has me read it about 6 more times. Then she seems very confused cause its not an exhuast violation but she gets me an appointment anyway. The ticket stuff comes in the mail and now the ticket is for "overtaking and passing unsafely"
Stuping Fing pigs.
Im in court the 15th, Ill fight it then.

dont street race. thats the excuse they are using to placate the public, while they are really just ticketing imports for any mods they can, whether they are really illegal or not. "modified exhaust" tickets are very common around here. yet there is no law against a modified exhaust. it just has to be under a certain DB limit. which is why im getting EVO2.

If some of this stuff is illegal then why are you guys installing it? I don't have a problem with the crackdown on illegal stuff per se, but don't really agree with pulling people over for searches without just cause. And the checkpoints? Doesn't seem much different than a DUI checkpoint.
I have no tolerance for street racing. While I was in high school some idiot in a few of my classes was goofing around and ended up pinning a grandfather to his garage and killing him right in front of his family. That's unacceptable.

i have a problem with illegal searches. having a modified exhaust should not be "reasonable cause" to search your vehicle. and its not even so much about the illegal parts. Leviiis car really isnt that loud, but he got pulled over because his car stood out. cops dont like imports, and now they have the right to pick on us. its not even really about racing. in their minds, if its modified, and not american, you are a street racer. Leviii hasnt gotten in a real street race in years. yet the cops pigeonhole him along with everyone else in modified imports. and they just love to give import drivers crap, like all the Evo drivers that are getting tickets for stock spoilers and stock mufflers. the cops are ignorant. they think a 2 hour class really qualifies them to find mods on cars.

bringing this one from the dead...
I got pulled over for loud exhaust and window tinting in the middle of december in hemet, went and got it tested at my local referee and he passed me even though I was 10 db over the limit. That was before I was cammed, now my car is extremely loud and I have to be really careful driving around here in so cal. I avoid Ontario at all costs! I want to put a pillar gauge pod on my car to keep an eye on engine vitals, but I heard about how cops are pulling people over just for stickers now a days so I'm just going to fab up a panel in my dash instead. Street racing is still a big problem down in ontario, and a lot of guys on the domestic boards go all the time, including a meet later this month out in the Palm Springs area.
I dunno, I understand why the cops are doing it, but its just like roadside smog testing, it's a huge annoyance to the innocent people who just want to have *safe* fun with their cars. I am waaaay smog illegal at this point, and my car is lopey as heck, but I still have my 50-state legal headers on, just because I can show the CARB # so the cops will give me a break. I feel bad for you import guys though, you have it a TON worse than us domestics and I'd say most modified domestic cars are illegally modified. I've know probably 15 guys that are running heads/cam/no cats that make over 450 rwhp that daily drive their cars, but they've never gotten pulled over and had their crap inspected.
If the gov. wants to stop street racing they need to build more dragstrips :) because once a week on thursday night at irwindale doesn't cut it, especially at 20 bucks to race. You KNOW the gov is making big bucks in cooperation with all the dragstrips in the area! That's why I'll be moving out of Kali when I get out of school, too much government control that makes life crappy for car enthusiasts.
Oh yeah my stupid ticket is 216 dollars uncorrected, like 125 corrected (exhaust only i think), but I'm just going to get my tinting ticket signed off because no big bad cop is going to make me take my tint off. Oh yeah, did you guys hear about how some congresswoman in Michigan or something tried to pass a law that said you'd get put in jail for illegal window tinting? I LOVE GOVERNMENT

I have a friend in Sacramento got pulled over cause he had and HKS exhaust with the silencer taken out so it was load. He should have known it was bound to happen sooner or later. He got it fixed has his papers saying its good to go now he has this one female cop giving him **** she has pulled him over twice for the same exhaust and everytime he shows his papers that its fixed they still threaten to give him a fix it ticket. I hope i do not have to go through this **** when i get there in December. I have a AEM CAI and DC Sport 4-2-1 headers, i do not remember if i have the sticker on my CAI but i do have a copy of the state statute that says my car can have it on there. This law is just bull****, I wish i had the loot if i got pulled over and searched i would take the police dept to court.

December now? I thought it was going to be this summer? man, summer is the biggest reason to be in Cali.:D
I drive around with an open downpipe lol. My car would fail terribly for emissions.......I paid $50 at some local muffler shop and tehy just threw a different car up on the tester.

Hey whats up Sacicons. Yeah december it is some things did not happen like we were hoping for so i am staying a little longer to pay off student loans that kind of thing. Would like to be debt free when i come back i do not want to start my marriage out with debt if i can help it. Getting married in August. Oh my fiance was going to American River and she is graduating this month. Still looking into adding that Greddy exhaust to my car but i am getting annoyed with all the stories of people getting pulled over simply for being import owners and having better parts on it. I have no problem sueing the Cali PD for harrassment if i get any thing close to what my friend is getting from a female cop that keeps telling him to get his car fixed even though he already has. I told him the next time she threatens to write him a ticket go to the police station and talk to her watch supervisor. Thats what i would do.
