Default h4/9003 hid bulb combo

anyone have experience with the h4 (lo, hid) and 9003 (hi, halogen) hid bulbs? does the high beam with the halogen really get far, distance-wise? when you switch to high beam, does the h4 hid stay on too?

looking at some pictures, are the 9003 halogens replaceable by other more powerful outputs perhaps or are they fixed to the base of the hid and will have to be replaced with the hid too?

here is a link for a sample:

the high beams for those will be about as bright as a candle in the wind... I had them.... they sucked... either get bixenon, or retrofit bixenon projectors

and no the HID bulb does NOT stay on when you turn on the highbeams

dito....... if you can buy it cheaper without the high beam then do so because the high beam is CRAP! the dim stock low beams are brighter than those high beams are! total waste!!!!

youll find out quick if ya got HIDs ya wont want to switch back to any kinda of halogen bulb!!!!!!!!

if you do want to help and get some HIGH beams then look into Bi-Xenon HID Kit
those have a electro magnet that moves the bulbs angle around to copy the high beam output.

i actually have the bixenon kit already. addiction2bass is correct, after i had them installed, i wouldn't want to go back to halogens again. however, i noticed that the hi beam just concentrates the beam in front of the car but doesn't get any further, reach-wise. i remember my old halogen h4's have a marked difference in terms of reach whenever i switch from low to high. is this an inherent trait of the bixenon kit perhaps?

i am planning on maybe just adjusting the height of my foglights to act as my high beam source in lieu of the hid's limited reach.

Hids limited reach?? wow do you have the lights aiming straight at the floor? hids are very bright and they shine really far

yeah, the high beam part of it. my lows have a comfortable reach of about 20-25 feet in front. when i switch to hi beam, it stays in the same spot and the light just concentrates on a point.

i remember my halogens would get really far though. i would think that even if i would adjust my vertical adjustment, it would just be the same; beam concentrates in front without getting range.
