I have a 2004 Civic SE and I will need to transport 2 kayaks so I need a basic
roof rack to whick I can attach some "J" racks for the kayaks.

What do you recommend (brand, model) for an affordable roof rack ?

 

you probably don't want to cheap out on a roof rack so Thule or Yakima would be my choice. you can usually find them used on craigslist or you can piece one together from ebay.

 

Hard racks offer a good stable platform for you to be able to load a lot more weight.
