i finally got around to changing the BP style leaking rear main seal in my 1.6.

everything went smooth for the most part, but i get chatter in the passing gear now. it's only in the passing gear.

yes i have plenty of fluid.
yes the axles are seated and in all the way.

any other suggestions?

Could it be the engine misfiring? It can be hard to tell with an automatic. Note that the OBD1 does not detect misfires and flash the CEL like OBDII does.

i don't think its a misfire. the engine runs great and is still getting 31 mpg

would it only misfire in 4th gear when the passing gear kicks in?
