I have a 2000 Honda civic ex D16y8 and i noticied I had an oil leak near my crankshaft. I removed the seal and found this metal bushing looking thing. I noticied it was broken. I searched online and cant seem to find the name or part of this item. Does anyone know what it is? Also, disregard the orange seal in the pictures, i know i put it in backwords. Thanks

 

That is a repair sleeve (Speedi-Sleeve tm) that someone put onto the crankshaft because it had a groove worn into it preventing a good seal. The sleeve is clearly broken now.

You have the seal in the right way -- flat side out. If the last guy put it hollow side out, that was wrong and it's going to leak.

Sometimes you can make a grooved shaft work by not quite putting the seal all the way in, so it runs on a different part of the shaft.

 

Do you think I should buy another one of these "Speedi-Sleeves" or pull out another crankshaft from a junk car?

 

You can't just swap a crankshaft like that, because it has to be matched to the bearings. To do that is basically rebuilding the whole engine.
