Good afternoon everyone. This is my first post in here, and I just bought my first ever Civic EX in September. It's a brand new 05, Fiji Blue Pearl with metallic flake. So far the only modifications I've made to it are I have tinted the windows and put covers on the dash and the two front seats. I don't know the first thing about cars but I am very serious about taking the best care possible of this vehicle so I've just been reading the owner's manual to try and learn a thing or two.

I was surprised to read that it says I should change my oil every 10,000 miles???? Is that really a smart thing to do?

 

WELCOME good idea to read the owners manual--- not too many people do that these days---as far as changing oil----most people do it at about 3,000 miles---its kinda of like cheap insurance

 

10,000 with some synthetic oils. I don't let mine get too much over 3500.

welcome to the group. they told me the same thing about the 10,000 mile bit. in the owners manual it says something about them putting in a special oil for the break in period and that the oil could go 10,000 miles. Im not sure about that.

When I recently bought my 05 LX, I inquired about the type of oil that Honda uses for oil changes and the salesman told me it was actually a synthetic oil that Honda uses.

I don't know if he was BSing or not, until I go for my first oil change (my manual says 8,000km) and then I'll take a look at a container of Honda engine oil and read it for myself.

 

when you go for the old change they should tell you what oil they use, and advertise it....ya i read my manul too and it says like every 6,000 km..i was like what!!..i would only have to do like 2 a year lol, but i try to stick around what everyone says, about 3,000 km...even where i go get my oil changed says that
