Welcome to the forum! I had 16s and 17s, but I would never try 18s. The bigger the rim size, the smaller the sidewall has to be to keep from rubbing your wheel well. 18s will ride more rough than 17s and 17s more rough than 16s... simple math. BlueEx, if you had a rougher ride with 17s than with your 18s, it was more than likely the tire and not the wheel size. I had some Kumho 711s and they rode horrible compared to my current bridgestones. Tires make all the difference in the world.
