well if your going to leave the speakers stock...you dont want the sub to overpower the speakers, so either consider, upgrading the speakers, or dont give the sub as much power...

i have done it in my 01 civic and it worked really well, the sound in my car sounds really good. i got a great deal on my stuff too. the head-unit was a birthday present, but i went to the swap meet and found some excellent rockford fosgate P1 Punchs, 2 12" for $160 alread in the box. and found a alpine monoblock amp for 150 when it retails at 250. just gotta know where to find your stuff, i dont know what kind of budget your on.

You don't need new speakers and you don't need new head unit. You really can't hear that much difference between stock speakers and aftermarket ones, just a little bit difference. To keep everything stock, you need to get a Amplifier that not only has an RCA input but also with an high input. This way they can just hook from your rear speaker wire into the amp. I'd go with one 1in or 12in Subwoofer in a sealed box.
