Any suggestions how to move my CAT down the line?
Hello,
Here's the deal. In the spring I am plannign on turbo charging my 08 Civic LX. When I do this I will be removing the CAT. I don't want my car illegal, so I need to move the CAT. I would like to buy a cat back system, but put a plain pipe where the turbo will be, and move my CAT somewhere under the car. This way I'll have a better exhaust for now, and my car will be ready to take the turbo kit easier next spring. It looks like the CAT bolts into the system on both the intake and exhaust of the CAT.
If I buy a cat back system, i'll have to cut something and I can't weld(no equipment) so I dont know how I would mount the CAT in the system.
Anybody seen a exhaust system that does what I want to do with just bolt ons? Should I just get a custom exhaust made to do what I want? Where would I do that? How much would it run?
Thanks guys.

go custom, and go 3 inch. our little 1.8s w/ a turbo seem to like a larger exhaust.
it is a piece of cake. If you dont want to weld it clamp it(its not the best way) but it works. You can put a cat where ever you want. and exhaust shop would do it for almost nothing maybe 50$ for labor.
Im not understanding what you mean by the cat bolts to the intake and the exhaust. The cat is only for exhaust and is right off of our Mani(in stock form).
what you asking is very easy, dont sweat it. If you cant do it yourself, do a little local shopping, most shops our more than willing to help.

Are you saying you have a catalytic converter that is not below the car? Is this car in California or something?
So what you want is from the engine, you have your exhaust manifold, then the turbo, then the down pipe, then the catalytic converter, then the rest of the cat-back exhaust system.
I've seen in car manuals, some Civics have the catalytic converter right after the exhaust manifold rather than going to a two-into-one pipe. This is what you have?

Right. I have an 08 civic. Stock, they have the cat right there in the engine bay. It's right after teh exhast manifold. Rather convenient if you weren't going to turbo charge. Now it's just in my way. So I'm going to move it to underneath the car(where most cars have it) and put a temporary straight pipe in the place where I will be installing the turbo in the spring.
Alright, found a local shop that can do the job for me. He said probably cost a couple hundred. But they will be installing new piping and relocate the cat down to under the car. I'm going to get an estimate tonight and hopefully drop it off for them to do the work in the morning. then I can swap my resonator and muffler by myself later on. And i'll be primed and ready to drop the turbo in. Hell yeah. And perhaps I'll pick up a little performance from the bigger piping, although doubtfull. But i'll pretend I am
does the few hundred include all new piping? **** drive up here and ill do it for free.
So there are gonna make u a new "header" per say(straight pipe), to replace the stock one until you get your turbo mani? Still a tad confused as to what you are describing, and exactly what they are doing. I get the part about adding a cat under the car. But that shop is gonna have a hell of a time making an oval piece to replace the stock header for the time being.

Okay. I found out a lot today. Most importantly, I found out I won't have to be taking emissions tests with my car. Thus! I will not be keeping the CAT. I'll just get a CEL eliminator and forget it.
I did not realize the header and CAT were actually one piece. Cool, but annoying at the same time.
I talked to a different shop, because the first one couldn't do 3 inch pipe anyway. This shop can do it for like 100, including the piping (just from the resonator to the header) but could be more if I need to use a piece of flex piping, which seems likely. Problem is, I don't have a header. soooo. I might like to take that header off your hands.
But, I would need to be able to attach it to 3 inch pipe. How big is the outlet on that thing?
You could do the bending for me? I would totally be up for meeting you and driving up there if you could help me out.
Side note....I can't find weight listings on like any wheels. Where is a good place to buy wheels?
