Is it normal for the paint to be rough in some areas on new civics? Is this a sign of bad things to come?

Hummm..paint to be rough in some areas, that doesnt sound good. This guy I no got his car painted a wile ago, if you ran your hand across the car you could feel a couple rough spots, this was because they missed clear coat in some spots. I dont think thats your problem. But I would ask the dealership you bought it from. Its a 07 so It will still have warrinty on everything. Including paint.

thanks.I have been reading about using clay bar, but I shoudn;t have to do that considering it's new

Overspray.... you know how they mask everything off with the paper and tape it up. Sometime a thin layer of paint will go through "soak" through i should say. Thus, creating that rough feeling. Yes, the clay bar works the best... however if you dont use it right, it will leave like tons of streaks on your paint, youll have to have those polished off. If your gonna use the clay bar, use some kinda of foamy glass cleaner, thats what we use.

I work in a body shop, detailing cars after they are fix and stuff... repainted even. So, i got some tricks up my sleeves. let me know if you need anything else

A lot of new cars need claying. Most detail enthusiasts make a habit of claying brand spanking new cars to remove any contaminants the paint may already have. Railroad dust, overspray from repairs nearby, dust and other things can blow on the paint and bondto its surface. If your paint is rough and it doesn't feel like the actual paint itself is rough, you can safely clay it. Just use plenty of lubricant, and if you drop it... throw it away! Don't try to pick crap out of it. :)You'll end up scratching your paint with a small rock or pebble or something.
