Problem wiith the shifter.... HELP
I have a question when I am driving my 5 speed I can klet off the gas and push the stick and it will go into neutral, is my car supposed to do that or is my clutch or something messed up. If so then should i not do it anymore.

RE: Problem wiith the shifter.... HELP
what rpm's are you at when you do this? sometimes if you are at a high rpm the shifter will pop into neutral really easy.....how hard is it to get it into neutral?does it grind or make any weird noises?

RE: Problem wiith the shifter.... HELP
you probably shouldnt, but its not a huge deal. it COULD wear on the synchros a little bit faster than normal, because theres still a little torque being put to them as they slide out of place. but just dont do it a lot. sounds nomal though.

RE: Problem wiith the shifter.... HELP
When i do am able to do it I am at 4000 rpms or higher. It starts to make a grinding noise also. It is verty easy to put it into neutral.

RE: Problem wiith the shifter.... HELP
Are you putting it into neutral intentionally or accidentally?
|
RE: Problem wiith the shifter.... HELP
Griding noise usually = Not good. If you are intentically putting it into neutral I would stop. Or at least only do it very rarely.

RE: Problem wiith the shifter.... HELP
I put it in neutral intentionally.

RE: Problem wiith the shifter.... HELP
Can we ask why you intentionally put it into neutral while driving? If I were you, I'd stop doing it.
|
RE: Problem wiith the shifter.... HELP
Because compression braking is harder on your engine than you think.

RE: Problem wiith the shifter.... HELP
most of the time my car is in neutral and I usually take it out of gear w/o clutching. No grinding and it slips out without any force. To me this is just a driving habit and I don't see how this is killing anything
