what cam should i get
i was looking at the crower stage two turbo grind cam, but it says it requires springs and retainers kit, i just got my head back from the machine shop last week so it should be fine right? would anyone recommend a different cam? thanks

RE: what cam should i get
I'd just go with a Stage 2 cam. Usually turbo cams are meant for turbo, unless you have a turbo setup.
But I think for my car, stage 2 cams run $325 and springs and retainers cost another $300.. You could get stage 3, but eh.. I wouldn't recommend it, you have to have engine management and it would have a rough idle since its mainly a drag cam. I'd say stage 2 is perfect for street applicable. |

this is for a d16z6 and i'm going to boost it, but if i go with the crower do i have to change the springs and retainers?

RE: what cam should i get
Ah, if you're going to boost.. Then by all means, go with the turbo stage 2 cams. And yes, you HAVE to have the springs/retainers. Most aftermarket cams say you need to change the springs and retainers. Changing the springs/retainers is apart of upgrading your valve train, and from what I know.. Its required.

ok thanks, i wasn't planning on upgrading those but if it will keep the engine from dieing then i'll do it, is this something a shop has to do or is it simplely take off old and put on new, and i'm assuming i can keep my stock valves because as i said they have been worked on and cleaned up and all that

RE: what cam should i get
Well.. I'd recommend taking it to a shop. Its not really for the beginner enthusiests. If you can change your own timing belt, tensioner, and water pump, then i'd say you could possibly do it. But I would still recommend a shop, because if they **** up, its on them;). But stage 2 cams are a great internal mod. I think you can get anywhere from 18~25hp with them? I'm not exactly sure, but thats my rough estimate.

RE: what cam should i get
thanks alot i appreciate it, my dad is a mechanic so he can help and if not then off to the shop it goes
edit: also i'm going to be buying from cimotorspotors.net, do you know if this is a good site? |
RE: what cam should i get
Yeah. No problem:D. I'd say get a Haynes manual for your Honda and tell your dad to give it a shot? If you fail, take it to a shop and let them fix your mistakes lol.

RE: what cam should i get
Springs and retainers are easy to get off, getting on not so much. Just be careful if you do it yourself, and don't lose the keepers!

RE: what cam should i get
are they under alot of pressure? will they fly apart, i don't want to get hit in the face
