Just because a box is tuned to a certain Hz doesn't mean it wont play anything else, it just meens that that is the loudest note that it will play, it doesn't mean it will only play a single note. Every box is tuned to its own hz level, be it prefab or anything through its natural design, and they play everything. I'm sure 90% of the people in ur home town have prefab boxes, and how do they personally sound to you? you can argue about ratings all you want, but in the end your going to be the one driving in it and listenin to it all day, so your major priority is to get what sounds best to you.

Actually, a box wont play anything below it's tuning, most subwoofer boxes exhibit a 24db per octave drop off below it's tuning. Tune a box to 50hz, and anything below 45 or so will be non existant and most likely damage your sub. A box should be tuned to 28hz, it gives the best mix of low-end sound, with te benefits of a ported box.

The negetive( or positive if it is an spl box) of using a high tuned ported box is the spike in the output at the port tuning. A 50hz tuned box is going to have anywhere from a 7-12db increase over the normal output of the subwoofer at 50hz. 50hz is not a very good frequency to have your sub blasting the note. So the object of a sub is to play low notes well and balanced. I dont consider no notes below 45hz, with a loud *** spike at 50 a good box.

T/S are Thiele-Small parameters. Basically the building/electrical specifications of a subwoofer.

Wikipedia's explaination of T/S

But honestly man, that isn't that good of a sub. It seems like you are willing to buy online, why don't you give me a budget for the subs(and amp if you havent bought it) and I can probably suggest something that will stomp on that hifonics.

What part of the country you from by the way?

Boxes are tuned for that frequency kind of like a natural crossover, natural protection for a sub....you cant have a lot of 10s or 12s playin 20 some hz all the time unless you wanna be buyin alot of subs....youll smoke the hell out of one playin it that low, most are not designed to be played in that range

Basically, the less sensitivity a sub has the more power it will take to make it "sub-woof"
