I haven't jumped into throwing any 6.5s in the ole civ yet, but I will be before long. All of you who have done it, did you have to get something similar to this to make the magnets fit, or did you cut stuff out of the way?

I think 1/2" would probably still clear the factory grilles, but I am not sure, figured I would get some input on that. I will be going with the Alpine type S 6.5's, just a good little factory upgrade for me. Nothing too pricey, i am a cheapo.

I've got a set of those that I didn't end up using. You can have them for $7 shipped.

Can the speakers be mounted though, without them? I am not really sure.

If I don't need em then I am not gonna buy any :-)

stu when i put mine in all i had to do was cut that plastic crap away from the inside of the door and they pretty much hit...everyone always thinks the magnet is gonna hit that window support bar but it wont. The only problem i ever had was the basket barely not fitting. For some reason the rings that came with the speakers made them fit perfect but they were just the regular rings that come with them not like spacers or anything.I think you would be ok for right now without really anything if those stock rings ceom with them....alot of ppl say to use 1/2 or 1/4 mdf to absorb some of the vibrations from the door and speakers but thats up to you.

take your dremel and just chop out the plastic that's behind the factory speakers....

worked for me, I really don't think the magnets could touch anything back there, as I can fit my entire hand between the panel and the door skin on the exterior

I didn't need them for my infinity reference comps. After 30 seconds with a dremel, they fit nicely. Had to drill new holes for the screws though, which is why I originally got the spacers for (go figure).

guess I will give it a go in a week or two and if they don't fit i will just get some spacers.

I love ripping stuff out with my dremel, so it should be a fun little project.
