Default alarm advice

hey guys, i've been drooling over a bunch of upgrades i want for my stereo but i dont have an alarm. i figure i should get an alarm first otherwise i'm just asking to have my **** stolen. Lately i've been working 7 days/week so next week i'm gonna do it. i'm stuck in my decision on whether to buy a 1-way or a 2-way alarm. what do you guys think?some of the features i will get are remote start, trunk pinand keyless entry. any other you recommend? the brands i was thinking of getting are either python or compustar. i believe there is a compustar that i can get 1-way and upgrade later to 2-way. a 2-way alarmis more expensive so i keep asking myself do i really need it. i like the option of knowing my alarm is going off or that some fool is ripping me off so i can run outside and tear him apart rather than not knowing until after the fact. one last thing, anyone have a siren inside their car??? all help appreciated.

i would go with a python two way, if an experienced thief broke into your car the first thing he or she (lets not forget those theiving females out there) is pop your hood and cut the siren. if you have the two way and you are within range of your car it will be flashing, beeping, and vibrating to let you know something is awry.i dont know your budget but the python 990 has a mile range ( i have it on my teg and i will say its a mile if you park on a country road and drive a mile away but in city it is more like a half a mile.) the 990 is the full package. remote start, keyless, alarm. one problem you may encounter is dei (python, hornet, viper) wont let the average joe install their own alarm and a certified retailer must, im guessing you have an si by your sn and i know for a fact that circuit city, best buy, and tweeter wont install in a stick due to the obvious reason of you have to bypass clutch switch and if you leave your car in first and remote start it your car is gone. im going to assume u have a way of getting around that. another perk to the two way is if you cant see your car when you remote start it the fob will tell you. on my civic i have a siren in one of the vents and i have never had it broken into but ive set it off on a few friends and they do seem mighty pissed about it. it will either deter a theif or make them tear your dash apart trying to shut it off. good luck, i hope ive helped

lol, thats awesome, you have a siren in your vent. i definitely want that. thanks for all the great info, I live in canada andhavent come across many shops that wont install on manual trannys. i know the same is not true everywhere. perhaps i will make the plunge and go for the 2-way.

yeah im an installer for circuit and we used to carry them as an accesory for alarms, for some reason we stopped carrying them, but we resumed carrying a bunch of crap that no one needs/wants. it has a warning that states that no one sould be within 10 feet of alarm or it may cause the person to become def for a short period of time

hmmm, hope i can get a small siren that will fit cuz i definitely want it. i figure nobody wants to stick around and go deaf while breaking in. maybe i can get a cool smoke machine that fills up the car too when triggered! sounds sweet. they got electric zappers on the market yet?

if you have a manual iv'e made a fail safe saftey switch that will be 100% reliable..plus on a DEI remote start i can make it tell you if your cars in gear when you arm your alarm.. I started my old GSR into a pole two years ago and after that i spent hours fabing up a fail safe, and iv'e had it in my EK since then and it's always worked perfectly. if you want to do one let me know it only takes about $10 worth of parts.. hope this helps

it will work with other alarms .i just tag the hood pin switch on a DEI alarm when my switch is actavated so your remote will show that your hood is open...thus your car wont start and when you arm it youll get the extra beep...so you know its in gear..after i figured mine out i heard of other installers doing somthing simaler so i wouldnt be surprised if you already know how to do it .. i think thers a therad on the DEI forum thats talks about ways around manual transmissions

oh nevermind i just ran outside and opened my hood and armed the alarm but where do you mount the switch, inside the center counsole or do you just your civic have a neutral safty switch that you piggy back off of? because i have used the factory neutral safty switch on a 89 300zx turbo.
