Question Auxillary cable withiout the new sound system

Hey I have got a 2004 Honda Civic EX, it has a original CD player and FM player into it.
Is it possible to just plug in the auxillary cable at the back sockets of the existing player to play songs via my smartphone or mp3 player?
I do not want to pay $150 on (Pioneer etc...) systems and $50-70 as fitting charges.
What's the cheaper and intelligent way to install the auxiliary cable.

Please help, thank you!
