Bandpass boxes thump with little power, but its sloppy bass. Same goes for ported, theyre not as loud as bandpass, but still kinda sloppy. Get a sealed box if you want tight crisp clean bass.

i never recommend bandpass boxes if you care about sound quality at all. they hit very hard, but it is very dirty and muddy sounding. a sealed box i going to be the cleanest sounding, but will put out the least bass out of the three. most people go with a ported box, cause it gives a lot of bass, and still maintains some amount of clean sound.

so if you want super clean, get sealed. if you want it to hit harder, go ported.

thats what i thought, but everyone tells me HOW MUCH they hate bandpass boxes, i was like why. the replies were they suck and rob your bass. so i did research on the net and found that a bandpass box is tuned for a certain frequncy, so any other bass that hits in the box isent gunna sound good unless its at the volume of that bass. i think mines tuned for a lower frequncy because its pretty large. ill take pics tomorrow just for kicks. do you guys know of any good box setups. im lookin for more bass than anything, i just got 2 new kicker vrs

I've used bandpass, ported, and sealed boxes and i personally like ported boxes alot more because It seems louder and i don't have to worry about the unhealthy sound i was hearing from my box. But its personal prefrence all depends on what you like. I liked my bandpass but i didn't like the space it took up in my trunk. It all depends on the specs on your sub. The box is what makes the sub. Doesn't matter what kind of sub you have, if its in a ****ty box then its going to sound like ****. A sub 500watt sub can sound better than a 1000 watt sub it the box is set up right and tuned to the right frequency.

Itis not a good idea to just throw in a woofer in a bandpass box because woofer that can utilize one are made VERY specifically to that setup. Any other woofer would sound like crap... so, if you have the kickers, just build a ported box to their specs. personallly though, i like the sound of a powerful sealed box.

Yeah I agree with Sigracer10, a ported box will give you deeper bass but if you get a good sealed box it will have a little less bass but it will be cleaner. I have 2 MTX 12" in a sealed box and I love the way it sounds.

just got my new kicker cvr 4 ohm 12s. band pass equals terrible, my speakers are louder, way better frequncy but at a certian spot when u turn it up it doesnt get that louder just more muddy, so im building a new ported box for prolly 32 hertz to 37 hertz dont know xactly what i want to build my box to but i also need a new amp cause im olny runnin 600 watts bridged so im gunna save up for a higher powerd amp at least 400 waat rms cause thats what my speakers are. well thanks for tha help guys.

Oh dude stay away from both, get a sealed box. The power you lose is well made up from the fact that it's more than a trunk rattling, you might actually HEAR something. Everybody gets a bandpass their first outing, or they had somebody to smack them upside the head - it's just something you learn from and move on.

If you want any kind of clarity please, please, please do your ears a favor and get a sealed box. Anything less is horrible sounding.
