BEST BANG 4 MY BUCK??
i already have a BOSS 400x2 amp and im planing to go with one 12inch sub...which brand sould i go for...that can give me the best bang for my buck...and thanks for all of your comments since im new to the tuner world im learning as i go
Well the key word there is "Boss." Which turns your 400x2 into about 50x2 in the real world. No offense.
Dual voice coil is when your sub has (2) voice coils instead of the traditional (1).... obviously. The voice coil is what makes the noise that comes out of the speaker. Without getting too technical, it will allow you to fool your amp into working harder.

thanks for clearing things up for me....but damn is boss really that bad?? and by the way it saids 400x2 does that mean it has 800 watts in all or does it mean 200 watts per sub??
That's 400 watts per channel, with 2 channels. That's a bitch of an amp if that's in RMS.
I'm thinking that's peak point wattage.. because a two channel 400watt RMS Amp would probably set you back $700
So if it's 400x2 .. it's probably about 150rms x 2.
You could always bridge that to one channel and make probably 400RMS, but it's not all exact.
Your best bet is taking the specs of the amp to a car stereo place and asking which subs it would work with.

If you're only running 1 12" sub, I'd go with at least 250 watts RMS (root-mean-square). This means your amp will run this much power all day long. Usually, the peak power is twice that, so a 500 watt amp. The 400 should do ok. But the RMS is more important. So if you're running one sub, you'll need to run both channels (I can't remember the term, crossover maybe?, to the sub). As for a sub, if you go with a cheap e-bay sub, they usually blow quickly (i know from experience). If you want a quality sub, I usually go with something with the RMS wattage close to my amp, so maybe like at least a 500 watt sub with 250 RMS wattage. This, for one amp and sub, considering the size, will give you some thump. As for brands, i like pioneer, but there's all kinds. Personally, I'd stay away from pyramid and legacy (usually found cheap on ebay). I've found some cheap pioneer subs which are a real bargain on ebay anyhow. Alpine, rockford fosgate, JL audio, and MTX are all good too. But, like i said, more important than the brand r the watts and RMS watts.
