I stand by my statement that MTX sucks unless we are talking amps. I got in a 14 page debate with 3 MTX reps about a year ago on a audio forum about their slanderous adds saying the 9500 series was better than the JL W7. It was funny me being a consumer and person that had at that time competed for around 8 years shut not 1 but 3 of the companies reps down.

There is just much better out there than MTX for the same amount of money.

look at the SE models, killer subs and you can buy direct from them, if you wanna play with the big boys look at the SX, XXX, and MT models. Still killer prices(email them for the price)

Tons of brands to deal with. Ask Mike, drill him. After all its his job to know whats good for you. Like Sam@mission:speed. I didnt know what the hell would be me when it came to my Magnaflow exhaust. I told him what I want, he took that and then gave me his input, then I took that and ordered what he reccommended because it was his job. I am happy now with my exhaust because Sam did his job! lol

i would strongly suggest a more powerful amp to push 2 15's, i never buy any amp that is under 1000 watts anymore because they tend to fry because of using subs that require more power than the amp can provide. subs are rated in RMS wattage which is how much they can continually handle, amplifiers are rated in peak power, which is the maximum power availible for a short period of time (like when the bass hits really low). so if the 2 subs are 300w RMS then that is 600 continuous watts needed, but most amps under 1000 watts won't be able to give that amount of power continuously.

An amp won't put out anymore power then it is told to. Having a 2000 watt subwoofer on a 1200 watt amp isn't going to make that amp push 2000watts. You tell an amp to send 1200 watts to a sub, that is what it is going to send, you will just be starving the subwoofer. IF you have two subs at 300 watts rms, any good 5-600 watt amp will be more then enough for them

but if you have a amp that is rated at 500 watts peak power and subs that use 600 rms then something is gonna break, because the subs will want the power to play loud and hard and the amp can't give it to them. and underpowering subs is not good either.

You have been misinformed.

Think about this:
If underpowering a subwoofer hurt it, what do you think would happen anytime you are not listening at max volume?

subs don't "want" power. They take what current is passed through them and turn it into mechanical energy. It doesn't matter if it is 1 watt or 1000 watts, they do the same thing, just differant energy amounts. An amp puts out the power it is told to, up to the max it can give; then it won't give anymore. If you have an amp that is 500 watts max power, then it is going to put out that.

a subwoofer cannot damage an amplifier unless the voice coils ohms are mismatched to what the amp can perform Underpowering a subwoofer will only harm it if you are cranking the amp's gains beyond clipping point trying to power the subwoofer.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of Phoneix Gold or MTX.

You're going to want much more than 80x4 to drive the speakers if you have that much bass happening.

I have one 12" sub at 300 watts and just front components at 90x2 and it sounds good, not too much bass like the majority of systems out there.

The rule of thumb I've always heard was twice the power to the subs and the speakers and you should have a good sounding system.
