i have a 92 honda civic and the problem i am having is connecting the radio antenna wire to my stereo. when i first installed my radio the wire was not long enough when the radio was pulled out. i removed the center console(ash tray holder/ciggarette lighter) to try and get a better angle but to no avail. the only way i can try to get it in, where the wire has enough length to connect, is when the radio is all the way in and i remove the console. its a bitch to get in because it is not lined up right and no way to maneuver it in. does anybody have an easy way to connect the wire?

 

two options, trace the antenna lead and find somewhere you can give it slack or you can go and buy an antenna extension that is a foot long which would give you plenty of slack

 

I think you can reach the back of the stereo while it is installed by getting down on the floor on the passenger's side.

 

I would just get a 1 foot extension for it. you can get them at almost any retail store that has a car electronics install department, or at custom shops. they should only cost around $5 or so.

 

yep..... or buy a new antena with a longer wire....

only thing that sucks with this antena is the hard plastic gasket for the antena.... i simply pulled it off and used the stock antenas soft rubber gasket. the cable was long enough to stretch directly to the back of the radio and best of all no more crappy static on a few channels i was having problems with close to my house.
im happy with the deal.

 

^^^ i think he is just referring to the actual antenna that plugs into the back of the radio, he wouldnt need to mess with that part if that is what he is talking about.

 

i tried getting down on the floor and wrapping my arm around under, but the postion of the plug is kind of at a wierd angle. and before i connect it. do u know if it will even work if the tip is broken. pic attached

 

ya you need that center prong... if its broke off i dont think youll get any radio.... either find a replacement cable or just replace the antena with one like the one i linked. i tried one from autozone on my 99 and it was not the same mount so i had to rip up my stock antena to make it work and that didnt work to well. luckely i have sirius sat radio on it so the antena doesnt have to be perfect.

 

the center prong on the plug is the positive side of the antenna, and the outer part is the negative side. just like any electrical circuit, without both parts, an antenna will not function properly like an antenna with both parts.
