Do you have to run a new wire for the tach??
96' dx hatch. I'm wanting to swap a type-r cluster in. My stock cluster dosen't have a tach so would I have to run a new wire off my primary coil or something to get the tach to work? Also would it mount the same as my stock cluster. I've been looking around and the type-r clusters look a little diffrent (mounting points etc...) Just wonderin thanks for the help!
Yeah just like everyone is sayin, no need to run any wires. All civics (the EKs at least) came prewired for a tach even if the cluster didn't have one. You only need to run an extra wire if you want to connect an aftermarket tach, but swappin in a type r cluster should just be a direct bolt on
I have a 95 DX coupe and want a tach too. Are there any out there that are under 100 bucks. Can I pull one from a junk yard or something? Its not worth it if I have to modify to make it work. Let me know what you think.
you can find a cluster from an LX or EX (or an Si but usually more expensive, or even a type-R but those don't come cheap) either at a junkyard or on ebay, alot can be had for under 100. after that its just plug'n'play, just swap it with your existing speedometer cluster. Or you can go the aftermarket route but i'm not sure what you mean "Its not worth it if I have to modify", there would be a few holes to drill and wires to run to attach it but its a 2hr job at most (thats what I did and I bought my tach real cheap from a friend for like $20 brand new).
Edit: actually for your year civic getting a type-R cluster to fit would require modification, you would need an LX, EX, or Si cluster from your generation (I was basing it off mine then saw yours was a 95)
