So i just got an idea.. Like 2 minutes ago.. And i wanted to post it here and get opinions on it. So you know how the dome light comes on when you open the car doors? Well, i dont like it. So my plan... I'm going to take out the dome lights, and splice that wire to the wires of my two 9" green neon tubes. I then plan on bolting the neon bars to the roof of my car, one in the from and one in the back. That way, there will be lights in the front and the back of the car. There are already switches on them to turn them on & off if needed... They are bright as hell - i had them under the dash of my Contour and they lit up the whole interior. So basically, what do u guys think of my idea?

 

That is what i was gonna do. but i just tapped into one of the door wires on each side of the car. if the driver opens his door the drivers side lights up. if a passenger gets in the passenger side lights up

 

visible neon tubes are pretty rice......but one of my friends has some on the roof of his mistubishi and it doesnt look too bad, i dont really know how you could light up your entire interior like a dome light does without having the lights be viisble. Might be cool, if you do it we wanna see pics!

 

do the dome light wires run anywhere near the fuse panel? if so, that would work for setting it up to work with the door, wouldn't it?

 

I'm not sure if it runs by the fuse panel or not, but i know what im gonna do. I'm gonna put one tube in the front and one in the back. I'm going to pop out the dome light first. There should be wires running to the switch that turns on the light, then some very short wires running to the bulb. I'm going to disconnect the bulb so it no longer works. Then i'm going to splice the short wires with some of my own wires, poke hules in the headliner to run the wires through, and screw the neon tubes in place. I think i'm going to take care of it this weekend. I have a few things to do this weekend.

-Roof neons
-I got my rims back, so i'm going to put them back on the car.
-I got a new amp from a buddy that i need to hook up.
-I need to replace the plywood in my trunk with a new piece that fits better.
-I might hook up some neons in the trunk that will be activated when the trunk is open, but i'm not sure. A buddy of mine has some little 6" green neon tubes that he's trying to get rid of for only $10. I dunno though...

 

^ sick man, i've always wnated to wire some kind of lights into my dome light, i wanna see pics, and maybe you even do a DIY, i know i'd use it atleast

Alright flip. Like i said, ill get to it this weekend. I could possibly write a DIY as well.. I don't see why not. I'llget pics and everything when it's done. Thanks for the positive feedback.

 

there would have been a simpler way....order a 6 led dome light through superlumination. i ordered a blue one and it lights up almost the entire car blue.

sounds like a pretty sweet idea dude. i wouldnt mind wiring up some LEDs in my trunk too. yeah i would wanna know hwere to get the LED dome light too
