Default EX Keyless thru Stock Stereo

As mentioned in another topic, I'm putting a new stereo in my car on Friday. But I've heard tale that the keyless entry system is routed through the stock stereo. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

Also, in regards to the keyless entry system, I'd like to be able to use the stock remotes with an alarm system, as well. I know there's the Honda add-on module, but is it worth it? Has anyone any experience with it? Or can anyone recommend a different solution that doesn't rely on a new set of remotes?

Yes, the stock stereo is the receiver/transmitter for the factory keyless entry system. I have been told that you can have the stock stereo installed somewhere behind the dash with power run to it and be able to use your keyless entry. Or, you can have an aftermarket system installed which is what I did in my '99 EX Coupe. However, that does mean you'll have a different remote.

May I ask why you insist on using the factory remotes??

Keyless entry has saved me from keying my own car on many occasions (usually after partying to much).

hehe now i love the fact it is through the radio. instead of payin $100 plus for a keyless entry install it cost me $25 on ebay for 2 remotes and 5 mintues time to program the remotes.

i decided it had to be done after one night leavin the bar i was tryin for like 10 minutes to get my damn key in the lock to finally realize i was tryin to use the key to the stang. both keys have black plastic. stupids drunks. i guess now i will have to be sure to use the correct remote.
