how do i take out my aftermarket head?
hey i have a regular low priced JVC headunit and i need to take it out
so that i can plug the RCA's and the turn on wire and run them back to my amp.
how to heck do i get this piece out of the dash??
it's a 1997 civic lx.
are there universal steps for all aftermarket headunits for which to remove them with??
thanks.

On some head units you need a small thin metal tool to slide down both sides of the radio to release it from the housing. You can get them from autozone or a radio install place.
Fist off. Go to this link:Here It is a PDF from JVC. On page 34 of this manual you will see a picture of how to insert the removal pins. Now you dont have to have the pins that came with it or even buy a new set. You can make your own. Take an old creditcard or old school ID. Cut it into 1/4 inch strips. Use two of them like you see in the drawing on the JVC manual PDF. Good luck.
^^^^he's right, unless the installer did an ISO din mount where the radio is bolted into the brackets of the car(I did that on mine so you can't just slide it out, antitheftish) In which case you get the joy of taking out the whole cluster up in there.
ya for my civic my radio was screwed solid which is how i instaled my new radio also. but mines alittle newer so they might be different.... simply pull off the trim ring after detaching the face if it can... and look for a outter ring from the mounting sleeve... if it has that then those metal strips should work fine...
