LED wiring help please
Any sparkies out there please give me a hand. I want to wire LEDs into grills, but I dont know how many and what resistors to use to make it work without exploding LEDs in the most inconvenient places when I turn them on. I got a multimeter and I can do all that kind of jazz. Can I justtap intosay the head unit/clock power wire under the dash than into one resistor (what size?) and than over a ?dozen? red LEDs. I will want a dozen at the least I think if Im able to.
You're gonna want to wait for addiction to post you some info, but I can already tell you he's gonna suggest oznium.com. It's got the led's, resistors, and how-to info that you are searching for, but he can suggest some e-z ways to go about it.
Also try browsing the previous threads in this section, or searching led's. Your bound to find some info.
I can tell you that different color led's require different size resistors, so be sure to get the know how before buying.
You can buy them pre-wired there, and only spend pennies more then you would wiring them all up yourself, why not just buy them already soldered and heatshrinked.
I have purchased several of their loose led's, and they all work perfectly, not one dud in the mix. They also have great customer service, they will e-mail ya in about 2 hours almost anytime you question them.
Anyway, I will make room for addiction to speak :-)
Good luck on the wiring, keep it clean !

for power, you can wire into the interior fuse box. you probably will want them on a switch so that they dont come on when your car comes on becasue having red LEDs in your front girll probbaly isnt legal. Buying pre-wired LEDs from www.oznium.com will save you alot of trouble, soldering gets old REAL quick, and if your gonna buy from oznium, might as well get some cold cathodes.
Any other info, just wait for Addiction

Order some flex strips for under the grill. They are wat proff and already have built in resistors. All you need to do is wire them to a switch and power source, mount em, and your ready to roll.
oznium oznium oznium.
prewired LED's. resistors already soldered.
simple wiring setup. red=power black=ground.
wire to the interior fuse box.. theres like 4 or 5 open fuse spots you can use. then wire it to a switch because you dont always want them on. even if you think you do. when the 5-0 is walkin up to your car cuz you were speeding or something. you wanna turn them off so you dont get nailed for that too.
oznium should definitely be the oficial lighting store of hcf. woot

I have got one of my electrical engineering mates from the academy here to help me out. He is helping me out so I got it all squared. Thanks for the advice anyway. Ill show you some pics when Its complete. I just have one question. In the fuse box, you said there is 4 or 5 open fuse spots. I got in there with the multimeter and I couldn't get anything (Yes, the car was on). I dont doubt that they are there and functioning, I just am not sure how to tap into it. Any advice? And yes, I was always planning on using a switch. My good friends, the boys in blue have picked up my mates on more than one occasion.
