Default Minor Problem

Hi

I successfully installed new stereo in my 98 civic hatchback. This is my first time and Im pretty
happy with the results... except for one minor problem. Every time I start the car, the head unit
is turned off and when I turn it on all my personal settings are gone. Any idea what Im missing?
Can anyone point me to the right direction?
Thanks

excuse any bad english.

Sounds like the remote wire - probably a blue(light blue?)one on your head unit - gives a constant power supply to your stereo for saving settings.

make sure that remote wire is hooked up to the blue wire in the back of your head unit, and tight.

Check your Power and Ignition wires (P-Yellow, I-Red) The yellow wire should be dropping 12v if tested at the connecter. Same for the ignition wire, when you turn the ignition on.

Your amp doesn't matter here - if I understand you correctly - There should be a live wire running to your stereo head, and the amp, on top of the Positive and Ground wires. You might/probably need to connect the live wire to where you have your amp connected... I may be wrong, but that sounds like the deal. Let us know.

What's your head unit? I think it might be more of a head unit issue if anything
if not, then you are losing power to your HU every time you shut off your car which most likely has to do with a car issue itself
try attaching a separate head unit to it, see if it does the same
if so then it's your car
a remote wire should not have anything to do with it
unless....you are not using the correct power wire to attach to your head unit in the first place

The remote wire is irrelevant in this matter; all it does is send a low-amperage 12v signal to turn on any connected amps/processors. The red wire is the switched wire. When power is applied to this wire the head unit turns on. Obviously black is your ground return wire. Finally, your yellow wire is your head unit's constant power supply. If this wire is not connected to the yellow wire on your Metra/Scosche head unit all of your saved settings will disappear once the red wire looses power.

I think you have the yellow and red wires swapped. When the key is on they are both on, so you have normal operation. But with the key off the yellow one must stay live all the time for the settings to be retained.
