Default new and need some system help

hello, i am new jsut joined yesterday. i will be getting a civic within the next 5-6 months (94-99). i was wondering what kind of a system would i like to put in it, i got a quote from a shop for close to 1600$ which included JL deck,4 2 way speakers amp and a 10 inch sub. and u can probably tell i know nothing of systems and even less about honda civic's. so any help and or DIY ideas would be nice.

thanks for your time

take your time listen to all the systems you can.. dont be afraid to ask questions
if its your first system try and keep it simple. dont buy a deck with evrey option under the sun unless you understand how to use them. shop and compare dont buy cheap swap meet quality equipment.
you get what you pay for.

sounds like alot of moeny to me. i got my near top of the line alpine deck, 4 alpine two way speakers, two 12" kicker subs in a kicker box with a kicker amp and wires for about 1500 canadian. i did all the installs myself, so if your getting someone to install it, it might be more expensive

Unless you are going to be competing with your sound system I would suggest getting something less expensive. Check out Best Buy or Circuit City. You can get nice stuff for a little over a grand.

^ yea what he said go for alpine head unit in my opinoin and either polk alpine or boston acoustics speakers...and for subs rockford fosgates are prob the best subs for that low end of the price range and then kicker too..but theyre not bad by any means....thats all just my opinion

I'd stay FAR away from that shop and stay far away from Circuit City and Best Buy. Especially if they told you a JL deck cuz JL does not make decks.

$1600 is a nice budget. Heres something off the top of my head that will **** on anything any of those places could offer.

Eclipse CD5000 - $250
CDT-CL62 Component set $ $250
SoundstreamPCA2.760 - $250
Fi Q 12" - $300 Loaded
Soundstream PCA1500D - $360

That leaves ~200, which is more than enough for wiring. Say 17 feet of 0 gauge, a 0 gauge fuse folder, distrobution block, 5 feet of 4 gauge, & 30 feet of 16 gauge. And still have money to build your own box and maybe enough for half a roll of RammMat BXT, which help those components a lot.
