Day 1 PART 2

well thats it for today.... all screwed solid and test fited preaty nicely. still had to grind a few spots down...... and trim a few other side panels so they would fit in thier as one piece!

i only have one bad cut the botom front piece i was gonna cut it with a angle cut BUT forgot messed up with angle cut and i cut it straight as a first cut BUT screwed up and the angle cut i wanted would tilt outwards.... WOOPS.. o well. i figure ill just slap somemore bondo ontop of it OR sand it down to a curve and just lay the carpet up and over it to run from the back of the back seat into the box...... ill try and figure that all out tomorow night. and get it all ready for carpeting... BUT i have to start building the sub box before i can start the cut for the sub and port... still have yet to deside... figure ill sleep on it.
let all the glue dry and slap some mud on it tomorow night and start shapen it up more.

Cmon. You are just lazy I did a DIY on my CUSTOM enclosure.

Herb you are kinda right in a sense. The more solid a box is the more efficient and better sound it will make... unless its really bad you wont hear much of a difference if at all. For example, if you double sheet the box it will be come more solid keeping reverberation down to a minimum.

well doesnt have to be doubled.... just as long as its 3/4 MDF

bracing is the easiest way to stiffen up a box and keep down on the weight...

just for kicks ill weigh everything before i secure it down. [8D]
not that i realy care tho.... when i add it up BASS is beter than a RACE and if your into bass they have a bassrace..... fun little race without moving a inch LMFAO

with as many pictures im taken people should be able to figure it out
but its definatly not for a beginer.......... beginers need to stick with square standard boxes

i do like RE audio BUT now that you cannt buy direct it sucks! so i have to find a dealer first and then have to pay retail price [:@]
i was gonna do 2 15inch Alpine type Rs BUT after buying one and stripen the trunk.... i found out to do those 2 15s ported id have to use my WHOLE TRUNK! no room for anything!
so i just decided to keep my 12inch SX and once i upgrade the electrical system ill double the system. another amp and sub. and then just have to redue the back trim panel and recarpet it and no one will know! so at least my front trim panel will be reusable!

You should mount the sub in the center of the opening and have the port come from below with a lil grill mesh over it..... least that's what sounds cool in my mind. Could flank either side of the sub with like plexi windows and have either the interior of the sub box mirrored and lit or (if you have them) have the component cross overs under the plexi again lit up...

Either way I look forward to seeing the end result, I'm a fan of full trunk builds (tho I doubt I'd ever hav one) and like seeing the progress pics [sm=smiley20.gif]

thanks for the coments...
tho nothing blocking the port.... dont want any port noise! maybe a show grill insert.....
and cannt put the port below the sub due to the length of the port needed for 50inches of port area and legth. the one i planed under the sub woulda been ruffly 60inches long and would go to high.... so i have to rethink the port....
will probably put it on the passenger side UP/DOWN ways

tho i will definatly be doing alittle lighting on the setup will be sticken some bare cold cathodes along the sides and maybe top of the trim panel being sucked as close to the front as i can to hide the bulbs!
and inside port painted standard flat black.... should look preaty good with the black carpet ran from the back seat cover to blend it in so it looks like it should be thier well at least thats the plan.LOL

definatly one of those things ya have to take it while it comes at ya! just little things that ya dont plan on then makes you change up the plan when it comes at ya!

day 2 BUT very little work done cause my back and headache!!!!
only got minor work done.. just alittle bondo slaped onto it and lightly sanded it to decent shape so carpet should be smoother once i lay it out.
and i THINK ive deterimined where to put the sub and port.
tho after the opening i decided just to try routing the port opening up... to much hassle to copy try and copy meades style port unfortunatly.
so have to do it the easy way and just sand a light curve in the trim panel... also since im gonna be carpeting... way to much hassle to try and smooth out enough for any paint work...
tho i just sprayed it black paint realy quick just to show it beter what it will look like with black carpet.
and decided to put the sub just alittle offset to the drivers side.
i think with spacing the box back a few extra inches it should still sound fine with the seats folded up.... might port the rear deck at a later time depending on the sound difference from open and close!
again enough talk. just a few pics...

now i have to start planing the sub box even further now that i have my exact measurements i have to work with.
think the port will be 12inches high, 4inches wide, and 42inches deep i think that shoulda be tuned to 34hz if the calculator is corect. box to be ruffly 2.25 give or take after displacement. planing on bracing and such.

ok i finaly got off my @ss and had another full day to work on my setup... and im realy tired about not having any bass
still dont have any BUT im close now!
box is built and just waiting for the glue to all harden up and dry..... and then i gotta slap it up in the car and brace it in thier firm!
tho i made a few mistakes and didnt build the side panels high enough like i thought i did : ( was gonna use them for the brace to screw into... still enough i think tho so should be alright.

i got a air nail gun yesterday and so far LOVE THAT THING! so much easier than predrilling holes and then screwing in screws and try not to strip out the holes... i just gotta practise with it alittle more to get the hang of it

site back preaty nice so adding the rear trim panel should be realy easy! still have to check if spare tire will fit under thier or not... if not ill have to stand it up straight and build another trim panel around it. ill finish up the trunk trim panels and amp rack this weekend since im off.

this is ruffly what it should look like. THO i kinda messed up the port opening on the trim panel so ill have to pull the carpet back alittle and dremel it out just alittle bit more and i think ill put some carpet into the port JUST ALITTLE BIT... i sprayed the port with some textured paint and also forgot to paint over it with some flat black paint. the texture stuff has a metalic in it.
i also have to cut all the carpet off the back of the box once the glue is all dry and the sub should sit flush with the trim panel........

just minor tweeking and i should have bass tomrow night
