Default not satisfied with sound quality

hi - i have an 01 with stock speakers and an aftermarket older model pioneer or panasonic cd headunit (its so old that the logo rubbed off) it does not play mp3s nor have an aux input. i am not satisfied with the sound quality at louder volumes. Should I upgrade the head unit or the speakers? if I upgrade the speakers can I just upgrade the door panels since i'm closer to them. Thanks

I would start with the speakers. Upgrade all 4 speakers and you will probably be happy. If that doesn't help enough, get a new headunit too.

how easy is it to replace the speakers? i think my biggest challenge is removing the door panel? Is everything else wire connect and play?
and btw, how would i know what aftermarket sizes would fit - or can i just go one size bigger?

Fitment Guide: http://www.mobiletoys.com/partners/jbl/Default.aspx
It's pretty much plug and play, except you may have to cut the speaker harness on the stock speaker wiring and then use crimp caps to attach the wires that come with the speakers to the stock wiring, but that's really easy.
I have no idea how to install them in a 7th generation Civic. EDIT: look at my next post

switching out the speakers for ones that have a higher power handling will sound much better at higher volumes. and if the sound quality at high volumes is still not good enough, then adding a 4 channel amp on will help even more.

As for the wiring, you can get honda speaker harnesses. its Metra part # 72-7800. They will convert the factory speaker plug to a positive and negative terminal to use on an aftermarket speaker. makes the wiring really easy and no need to cut and splice any wires.

and have fun with the rear speakers cuz for that generation they are a royal pain in the a**.

it doesnt matter how good your speakers are if u dont have good clean power running into them. Upgrade your head unit first, and if u dont want to spend a lot, buy some 2 way speakers..... DONT BUY 3 way or 4 way, those are gimics, 2 way coax are the only way to go if u dont get components.

But he already has a headunit that's better than stock, and 7th gen Civics are notorious for having horrible stock speakers. I sense that the OP is not looking for top quality sound or probably doesn't really care as long as it sounds fine when he turns it up. I think the headunit he has right now is already good enough for what he wants out of his audio system.

i agree with trust, if you like you HU start off with upgrading the speakers, you will notice a big difference then if your not satisfied then you can add an amp, then an amp to a sub

thanks guys, i already have a 4 channel amp - and i have 2 channels into a sub, but i'm not a fan of bass as it rattles my mirrors and makes me dizzy...
i think i'll buy a new headunit first -just for the fact that it'll play Mp3s and has an input jack.
