Ok guys, I need your suggestions...
I am trying to give my wife a cleaner ride so she will leave me alone about having a mommy mobile. She has an 02 CR-V, the clover green color with factory tinted windows. I will agree it's a little mommyish with the factory crap rims (we didn't get the nice alloys) and the minivan looks. SO, I ordered a set of 17" motegi DP-10's with some nice tires to improve the looks a little, now I need to focus on her soundsytem, which blows btw.
I just ordered an Alpine CDA-9883 from sonic to replace that god awful factory deck she had. I think it pushes 6 watts a channel, if that. Distorsion is huge around half volume, and you know me, i like it loud. I know this isn't a huge deck, but for her, it's perfect. Too many options and she just locks up and turns it off, ha ha.
Anyway now we need to do something with the speakers. I am probably going to do at least 1 pair of Alpine type S 6.5's in the back to give her some crisp high's and good mids, but the sub is what i am stuck on.
I have been reading mixed reviews on the Alpine subs. Some say they are blowing (the spider is seperating causing awful sound) over time, others say they are the best subs they have ever heard.
I am pretty set on an Alpine amp, because I like to keep things in 1 brand whenever possible. I would like to do 1 10" sub. I am drawn between 1 type R or 1 type S, my only alternative being 1 JL W3.
Any of you running type R or type S subs and have some comments after a few months of hearing them. Any issues, etc..
She probably won't ever push them very hard anyway, I will be the one to do that, she just wants something more moving then the stock system. I want to have flexibility to listen loud or soft and have a reliable speaker that will stand the test of time like my JL's have.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Although you said you want to keep it one brand , you can try a L7 or L5 Kicker 10"inchthey are square, and since im sure just tosses stuff in the back remember to get a grill to protect the speaker. There pretty decent. And Remember better to use a vented sub box, so your sub is less likey to blow since it has air to breathe inside. Alot of auto shop recommend them that i go to.
