options...options...
hey im new to this forum. signed up to help out my girl with her 2000 civic lx. as of now i got her 2 12" a-bahn alumQ's with a profile 600msx amp that i need to find a better ground for. i got it on the seat belt bolt under the seat now but the amp still gets freakishly hot and turns off. any recomendations?
but my main question was about the front door speaks...ive searched but never really did find a definate awnser. her stockers are getting tired and i wanted o know what coaxs evryone was running. i was lookin at the pioneer rev series , infinity ( i see is a board fav here) , cdt neo's , and the alpine type r with the mounting adapter. can anyone shed some light about these speakers? i know mounting depth is the main concern with these...opinions?
thanks.

RE: options...options...
I am rocking the Alpine type r powered by an alpine v-something amp... It is a little amp but adds alot of power. I only amped the front speakers and I turned the fader almost all the way to the front because it sounds better to me. I also have a 12" MTX thunder subwoofer with a big ol Alpine amp... I used to have a better setup in the woofer dept. but my wife complained about the noise!!! haha even before I amped the speakers they were incredibly clear while being powered by the deck... which is an alpine. I like alpine.

thats good to hear. the alpines im looking at are the spr17lp with the gm and honda adapter rings for added depth, those the ones you have? any opinions? wheres your ground point? i have mine the same spot as the last amp which was the same model , just smaller batt+ and neg. treminals ( i dont know why) and it was fine.

Geez I dont know what any of that means! I just pointed at a display at CarToys and they put it all in the car for me... My amps are mounted behind my seats in the trunk and my subwoofer just kinda sits there in the trunk... ground points... i dont know what that is! Sorry!

ah haha s'all good. ground point is where your amp/amps are grounded to. you can follow your ground cable (next to your power, lol) from your amp to whereever that point is. usually installers will test points for zero resistance and pick the one with very little to none. i dont have a multimeter to test this so i just asked.

First off, Audiobahn= major sux0rz. As does Profile.
Audiobahn subs are ridiculously over rated as far as power ratings go, and just not quality subs at all.
Profile amps are just as bad. Total bull**** power ratings, terrible sound quality, terrible quality all around.
^That's probably whats up with your "bad ground." Usually, seatbelt grounds are a pretty safe bet.

That or you may have your subs wired wrong. <-- Most likely what's wrong. What model are your subs? Dual 2 or 4 ohm? Single 4 ohm? and how are they wired? Should be below a 2 ohm load on that amp. Ever.
Please list the model number of your subs and amp.
From what I've heard/read, the Type R coax speakers are good, but you can find way better for the price. Pioneer's quality seems to be going down the toilet. Infinity's are nice, but are almost always VERY bright sounding.
CDT's are one of my personal favorites. Very well rounded sound, and take lots of power.
Mounting depth problems can usually be taken care of pretty easily. With a kit or just a simple mdf baffle/spacer to mount them to.

haha. while everyone thinks audiobahn 'sux0rz' , this line (alumQ NOT alumN) was actually one of thier better if not best. still not great , sq is poop but the spl is there. have you ever ran any of thier equipment? profile are actually very good budget amps (with the exception of the BAJA series). and id say the rms ratings are close to what they claim. ive had both of mine run at 1.5 ohms for over a year with no probs. i just dont understand why this one kills the car. (lights dim , low idle with gains up).
i listed my equip. in the first post.

ok well the car stalled a couple times , so i switched out the amp to the older one (same model) and the problem is still there. rough , low idle <500rpm . so i guess it must be a ground. ima go for a ride with the amp disconnected to see if its something i did or not. i cant take driving without bass. bleh.

ok, i got a little lost, but a ground spot in the truck that works well is near the lights, under the seat, lift the carpet and find a bolt going into the chasis, sand away all paint in the area, and put it there. ALSO, if youve got the time and patience, put a component set in there, well worth your money, seperate your highs and mids to really give you that front row at a concert feeling. As for regular coaxials the type-r's are pretty good, also infinity kappas are nice (im not sure if they make coaxials, or if they are good, but i havent heard bad things about kappas) and CDT's are great for the money too.
