Please Help .. amp / sub question
ok i am planning on ordering an amplifier for my 12" alpine type e's tomorow.. 4ohm
is this a really good amp for them?.. to the best of my knowledge this would be a great amp for them
------> http://sonicelectronix.com/item_8518...+MRP-M850.html
Heres the specs for the subwoofers
-Handles up to 600W peak power (250W RMS)
-Kevlar-reinforced pulp cone, oversized parabolic dustcap and high-excursion 3/4" Santoprene surround
-High-strength brass voice-coil bobbin; 38mm voice-coil diameter
-Dual progressive Nomex spiders with integrated tinsel leads and edge control
-Powerful steel basket; bumped backplate
-11" top-mount diameter; 6-1/2" top-mount depth
-Frequency response: 26Hz - 1kHz
-Sensitivity: 89dB
-Impedance: 4 ohms
so if i ran the amp at 4 ohms: 250 watts x 2 channels that would be really good for the subs.. am i right?.. if not help me out..
PLEASE HELP!!. ha i wanna order this amp soon!. but i cant get enough information so pleaseeeeee help..
THANKS GUYS

You would wire the subs in parallel to run with a 1 channel amp, then they will present a 2 ohm impedance to the amp. Which is ideal because the amp is rated for that. You could potentially get 400 watts to each sub.
Clearly you don't want to turn it up that loud or there could be damage. But oversizing an amp is better than undersizing it.

You can have an amp that is capable of more power than the speakers are, you just have to be careful not to turn it up so high that the speakers blow. Having the amp and speakers "matched" by power rating is no guarantee that something won't blow if you turn it up too loud anyway. It sounds better and is actually easier on everything to have the amp somewhat oversized.
that amp istoo big for those subs. it will be runnin about 400 rms watts to each speaker and they are reccommended to run at 250 rms. it will still work and run wellbut dont turn it up too loud.
I would recommend getting this amp: Alpine MRP-M650. It is the same series but the 600 watt RMS version. and would run a lot closer to the speaker specs. plus it will prolly save you a little money and you dont have to worry about blowin the subs as easily.

Well if you keep it at 4 ohms it would be peerfect for the speakers, but if you change it to 2 ohms then its too much and the speakers will blow. Make sure you wire it the right way
