a plexibox has no audio quality differances then a MDF box. IF it did bobby gately wouldn't be making a fortune selling SQ systems. $500 for a box though is a little insane

go to the depot. Get 3/4 inch MDF.

and $5 in 1" hardwood screws.
I think if you're gonna use 3/4" MDF, you better use at least 1 1/2" screws, and better to use particle board screws because they have bigger threads on em to grip better in the MDF. Don't forget to drill pilot holes so the MDF doesn't split, and use carpenters glue as well.

Think about it. Do you think people just pulled using MDF out of their butts?

As for the original question... listen to Remmy. Build it out of 3/4" MDF and make a window. Or if you wanna show them off, just put em in backwards.

If it were it be a little rough.

But seriously, Im gonna get down to the nitty gritty for the ignorants. Good clean sound is always at its best when it can be absorbed. Pretty much the least resonance you have, the best sound you get. Grainy wood tends to be great because of it sound absortion qualities. MDF is superb because it wood shavings pressed together. If you had an all glass box, the resonance would be unbelievably bad or aka "hollow". Have you ever wondered why there are thick, thick, thick felt or cotton curtains in movie theaters? Or if you had the means or experienced this, a home theater sounds much better when there is carpet and furniture in the room compared to it being empty.

Nuff said.

BTW hes probably making tons of cash because of looks. There are expensive 'designer' speakers here and there made of solid glass inclosures for looks. But the sound quality is terrible, so bad in fact that it makes a wal-mart boom box look like its at the top of the game.

Forget glue. Build the box and line it with bathroom/tub caulk. Use you finger to seal all cracks inside the box.

Sadly, Ngo... if the physics of a cardboard box held well under pressure, it would be superb against and plexi, glass, or fiberglass box.
