That is for their product... results should be fairly similar. But the back corner thing is just my reccommendation considering my experience on corners.

You cant just port a box. Especially not with whatever size port you think would look nice.


Ports are tunned to different frequenzies, plus a ported box needs to be bigger then a sealed box. If your sub is in a sealed box and you want the ported bass sound you need a whole different box.


Also dont port the port on the opposite side of the box then the sub direction, this will cancel each other out and it will sound like a blown 6X9 trying way to hard to impress the little girls down the street.


Build a box to specs and have the port and sub facing the same way and it will sound good. Rigging a port in your current box will be a joke as well as sounding like one.

 

not true at all. If proper measurements are taken u can succesfully port a box hommie. The box i have meets the reccomended volume for a ported box. I just need to add the port. Besdies....even if it DOES sound ****ty.......i just seal the box back up. lol u must have missed the fine RED print on the first post i made in this thread. Thanks anyway i apprecite it.

 

Actually, I had a sub that needed 3 cubic feet SEALED to perform its best.

 

I actually do know what I am talking about. Been installing profesionally since October of 99. I am now an install manager for a chain with 50+ stores and have well over 200 custom boxes under my belt with thousands of amp installs. Done 7 show vehicles, 3 of them are in magazines. about 30 SPL vehicles, about 20 first places. I am MECP first class certified. Mobile Dynamics graduate.


So yes, I do not what I am talking about, and evey sub I have ever seen (made in the las 5 years) needs a bigger box to be vented. If your sub needs 3 cu ft for sealed sound like it is old school. Subs nowadays need no more then half that for sealed. ON top of all that round ports suck, actually they whistle. A rectangle port (aka slot port) will perform signifigantly better and gets rid of the whistling effect you see with all the garbage prefab boxes people think sound great.

Hence my triangular port suggestion. No, my sub wasnt old school. It was a Dayton Titanic MKII 12", not a competition sub, but more for audiophiles.
