Default Power Windows

I want to do a power window conversion in my 98 DX most likely with a universal kit from ebay. I´ve read a lot about the power window, lock, and mirror conversion being an absolute pain, but will just the windows be do-able for a somewhat novice mechanic like me? The universal kits say that they basically use your existing crank to move your windows.

Any experiences please respond. Thanks

noisy as he11 if you ask me, your best bet is just go to a junkyard and get the doors off an a model with the power accessories, they will bolt right up and you wont wake your neighbors when you roll up your windows at night. plus any model with power windows is going to have power locks and probably power mirrors. and if you use that kit you are still going to have that nub from where ur window crank used to be and it will still be spinning whent he windows move, some kits come with caps but they are cheap in quality and break off, plus u have to mount your universal button and run wires through your door boot. i believe that you might have to run wires if you just get the factory kit to though. how much is the kit? and do you have a 2 door?

i have a spal kit on my 88 and they work for the most part...when they get to the bottom where the windows cant go down anymore they make a loud clicking sound and they are kinda slow on the roll up.....otherwise they work great and ia have had no problems with them....install was not that bad, only took 2 hours per window.

thats it i think, i bought my civic from a honda parts man so if my car needed anything while it was under his care it got genuine honda parts, and i will tell you that the switch is prolly gonna be hella expensive because the door lock switch was removed by the owner prior him (actualy the guy i bought my teg from, but that is another story) because of how easy it is to pry honda doors back and use a coat hanger to hit the lock button and he said that the lock button for a 94 goes for 60 bucks at retail, so i can only imagine how expensive a set of window switches are. if you wanna go factory your best bet is junkyard because you might find doorpanels that match your car or atleast you could take measurements off of them so you could cut for the switch, plus everything is there. if you just to try buy the individual components from honda i bet there is some slider bushing or something that is damn near impossbile to find

+1 for sure. im doing that in my 02 civic dx. im getting both doors, same color and everything, for 600 bucks canadian. what kinda wiring do you need to do to get them workin? i take it gotta go to the fuse box, and get the fuses in there and everything, but is there anything on the inside of the car that i will need to ge tthem working?

i have never done this conversion in a civic but i know that in alot of cars they made one wiring harness for everything from the bare bones base model to the highest model, so the wiring might be in your door, that is a big might, but if civics arnt wired that way then you would need to run wires between the doors so the driver can roll down both windows and lock/unlock both doors with one switch
