Default radar detector hookup

Yo guys. This is just a very general question. I'm in the market for a radar detector. Any suggestions on a good company brand to check out? I'm not looking for a cheap one that won't work, so.. no Wal-mart. Haha. Just want something that runs solid. Let me know if you can.

escort and bel

i've got a escort passport x50 in one car and an older passport 8500 in another and they're both great, but a little pricey.

valentine1 is a great competitor for the x50. only thing it has going for it over the x50 IMO is the directional arrows

ya ive heard the valinten or how ever ya spell it is the best to have... but thier is a few other types of radar that have the front radar sensor and rear radar sensor that also jams thier radar

and with wiring them up ive always tied into fuse boxs ignition... that way it always comes out automaticaly with the key...
i just use my old cobra radar detector with voice alert....
works just fine for me tho i do want to buy a new one preaty soon just cause im tired of taking it apart and puting back on the volume control screw.LOL

and i figure thier newer radar detectors are probably beter anyways...

but with ever way you go DONT GO CHEAP.... and dont get the low model!!!!!!! go good with all the tricks

even if you pay 2-300bucks THE FIRST TIME IT GOES OFF and slam on your breaks and slow down it still pays for itself REALY QUICK!!!!!!!

mines about 4-5years old and still works great..... i havent gotten any tickets from speeding since i got it! well i did get one ticket BUT thats because i had my stereo cranked to loud i didnt hear it.LMFAO

i wish they made a radar detector that would be able to hook up to your radio to cut off its power while it was going off.... thats my worst problem with my radar... is cause i have my system cranked up most the time and cannt hear it.LOL

Word. Another friend of mine who drives a STI has one that's a few years old and went through a car wreck and being out overnight in the rain that still works fine, but he's thinking of getting a new one too. Interesting idea with the car stereo volume shutoff, but I think I might get too pissed off at my CD's going quiet every time a blip comes on display.. haha. I did end up buying the Escort Passport though. Got one from a guy on ebay with solid feedback for about $100 cheaper than list price! Score.

I have great luck with a police scanner. (I dispatch auto accidents for a living) And once you get the hang of a scanner, learn the codes, you will know exactly where officers are set-up for speed enforcement zones.

the valentine 1 is about the same as the passport. on the way to florida i actually tested both at the same time. a friend has the valentine and i've got the passport, so we put them both on the dash to do some testing. i didn't find either one superior to the other actually. one would go off just a few tenths of a second quicker every time. sometimes the valentine would go off first, sometimes the passport would go off first. like i said about the arrows, they're a nice feature i wish the passport had, but IMO that's where the extra $50 comes into play for the V1. i didn't want to spend another $50 on arrows and i think the passport looks nicer. it's more sleek instead of having a huge box up there.
