Rear speakers? : 1992 Civic Hatchback
Hey gang,
Tried to search but found no solid help.
NOOB Alert...
I am trying to help a buddy who just bought a '92 Civic Hatch with NO rear speakers. It looks like a challenge, but, other than building a box, will speakers fit it the curved plastic along the sides of the rear seats? Should we expect it to be pre-wired? How should we proceed? Does Honda offer anything/kit to help? Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Some hatches DO have a rear panel with speaker cut outs already there. And yes, there is wiring, bnut I have hears its a MAJOR pain in the a$$ to locate. If he wants it to look the best and look stock, I'de suggest looking on ebay for someone selling rear hatch panels from a car that did have speakers already. Then swap his for the new ones. Make sense?
So, some Civic Hatch's came WITH rear speakers standard? And, if so, had pre-made panels to accomodate said speakers?
If I cannot find this part on ebay, does Honda sell it? Is there a parts page you can recommend?

To the best of my knowledge, yes, some hondas DID have rear speakers depending on the model. I'll keep my eyes out. Call up your local Honda dealer and ask them, thats probably the nest way to make sure they do make them. Then hunt the internet for them. They are going to be WAY to much at a dealership. Hope that helps some.
I've got the same problem with my 95 civic. I've been told some have speaker mounts and some don't. I wanted to fit 6 x 9's in the side panels instead of the rear shelf. Unless I can find a breakers yard with some side panels with speaker mounts in I'll have to use the shelf :-(
The other werd thing I've noticed is that there are wires coming out of the dash marked Rear L & R but can't find them coming out in the back anywhere. Anyone got any suggestions?

i had my rear speakers custom installed in the rear side panels in my 91 dx hatch. it did not come with rear accomodation either. it was relatively simple and looks good. you need to get a patern of the hole size you need. use a measuring tape and center the patern where you want it on each side. you can cut it out with a jig saw, razor blade (hard to do), or rotozip (what i used). running the wires is relatively simple as well. just remove the panels and side moulding along the door and run the wires behind the dash along the sides to your holes. make sure you buy speakers with grilles on them. (p.s. make sure the hole you cut out is not the size of the speaker but the size of the mounting hole allowing room to screw the speaker mount to the panel.
uhhh.....dont try to install them by the back seat....there is a gas tank pipe there.....
my friend didnt know about that in his civic and almost cut his gas tank pipe in half
lol
