Receiver w/ iPod Question
I had another thread asking about which receivers are good to have with an ipod for a car, but I have a new question if anyone can help me out.
My friend has a Acura 3.2CL with a really nice ipod setup. Basically he has a cord that connects from his receiver that comes out the bottom of his center console below a metal mount thats attached on the inside of the dashboard and he just places the ipod in the mount, plugs it in and he can listen to the ipod but also have the ability to play any music on his ipod, not just playlists (hes able to still use the ipod touchwheel and use all ipod features). He also says that ipod cord connected to the receiver charges the ipod as well, is this true? (he isnt car-savy, dont trust him sometimes
)
Now my question is, I was wondering if there are any receivers that allows full ipod functioning that would fit a 2003 Honda Civic LX (I can check crutchfield if you have a model and youre not sure if it will fit) that connect in the back of the receiver, instead of the front with USB or whatnot. Also, anyone know of any nice ipod mounts for a 5thGen 30GB Video iPod?
*edit* Im talking to my friend about this question and he says any receiver with an aux input would work, but on my other thread everyone told me aux is crappy quality and not to get it. My heads starting to hurt a little bit from all this thinking lol.

sounds like a nice setup... if it plugs into the bottom of the ipod(the part you connect to ur computer when ur trying to upload new songs) then MORE than likely its charging it, you can also usually tell by looking at the battery if it has the charging symbol. if it just plugs into teh headphone jack then no it does not charge it.
there are two types of receivers:
1. the kind that you can control from the deck
2. the kinda you cant control
there are more but those are the main ones when ur dealin with an ipod. you need to decide which you like better.
as far as fitting your car nearly anything will fit you just need to buy a cradle to fit the dash
hope i helped
p.s. i have the alpine cda-9857 (google it) if ur interested to see what other civics have in them

After some browsing and chatting with a friend, he linked me to this receiver and said it plugs into rear aux from the ipod dock input and still allows the usage of the ipod controls. For the ipod>aux cable he says this would work. Is aux really as bad as everyone says it is, becuase if not this receiver looks fine for what Im looking for (but you guys know more than me).
*edit for john* I also have a ~$140 budget, I want something decent, but I dont need anything high end and top notch.

" 'Opt. audio in no iPod control' means an optional cable/adapter is available that connects from the iPod docking port to the receiver. Sound from the iPod will play through the receiver, and the iPod's battery will be recharged, but the receiver will not control the iPod or display song titles."
...Which is what Im looking for Im pretty sure

yeah sounds like it, go with that if you still want to control the ipod through the ipod

1) Is aux quality really as bad as people say?
2) Is that cord I linked in the other post the correct ipod>aux cord?
Thanks!
its the correct cord i guess if you could find the answer to this question you will find the answer to yours
can u adjust the volume through ur ipod?
the reason aux sounds so bad is because is because u have two amplifiers inline u get distortion (amp one: ipod, amp two: the radio) and if u can adjust the volume on the ipod it means u have two amps hooked up
