Default Removing and installing a new head unit

Hi all!

I just bought a 1999 Honda Civic ex, and I was hoping you guys could tell me how to remove the old head unit. Is it terribly difficult?

Thanks!

if you search you can find instructions, but basically, what you do is lower down the glove box, lower down the cover under the steering wheel (careful clips!) find 1 screw on each side of the thing underneath the main console area where the accessory is, pull that out, and now you'll have access to get behind the stereo and pull it out, Jason

Thanks for the reply Jason. I tried doing this at lunch, but ran out of time. Do I really need to remove the climate control ***** and all?

Thanks again!

no, yopu dont need to remove the climate controls, you just need to take out that peice ahead of the shifter where the cup holders are, this will allow you to reach in behind where the stereo is located and push it out, then you'll unplug it and remove it. Just get the under steering wheel piece down, then the glove box, then the piece i was speaking of (where the cupholder, accessory plug are) then you can reach back in there and push out the old HU, if you do a search you may be able to find pictures, so do a net search and someone has it written up somewhere, its not that big a deal, lemme know if you have other questions, Jason

Hey, thanks again Jason!
One more question, then I will let you be... Just so I know what I am in for tomorrow afternoon, are there any screws or bolts to remove once all the panelling is out, or is it really as simple as pulling the old one out and pooping the new one in?

Thanks again!!!

really, thats what i said but i was trying to keep it simple, the climate controls dont have to be removed except for those screws stated above, now getting the new one in is another story, there's wiring to do, both on the new harness and the new stereo, so folloe a wiring diagram and use an aftermarket wiring harness it'll be easier, the civics main wires are labeled, sounds like your in for some fun, i'd only do it on my lunch break if i knew what i was doing, otherwise it'll take longer than that, i kept the explaination simple so he would go and do an internet search to find a real write up, peace
