I have a 2000 civic coupe. I had 2 15" MTX 8000 and a MTX 8100D amp in it. I had a 150amp breaker hooked to 4 gage power wire. My lights would also dim when the speakers hit hard. I put HIDS in it to get away from that problem. The dash lights would still dim but i didnt care about that. I ran them for prob 2 years. Then i changed to 3 memphis 12"s and a 1400watt amp. I have never had a problem with my alternator. What kind of amp are you running. It might be a power hungry amp. If you were to go to a JL 1000/1 it will pull alot less power. I think it can pull as little as 12 to 13 volts and still be running at 100% (Like i said i think) I know its not a power hungry amp. But you are looking to spend a nice chunk of money on one. But IMO it is well worth it. It is a great amp.
There are much better amps you can buy for the price of that JL. Cadence and Sundown are the ones that come to mind.

You don't know enough to be giving advice about this stuff. HIDs will not get rid of the havoc your sound system is wreaking on your car's electrical system.

And let me add one more thing the JL 1000/1 draws 109 amps running at 1000 watts constant. Yes that is alot of amps. But how many people out there run 1000 watts constant unless it is for a few seconds during a sound off? Im not a expert But i do my research before buying anything.
And i dont think 2 kenwoods would handle that amp. I was just trying to say there are other amps out there that will run more efficient.

Yeah disregard the dude who said IMO after that long-winded response, because its only "in his opinion". Also, I was totally a believer that capacitors don't work, in theory no. But sure enough I was working one day at starbucks and a guy wearing a crutchfield shirt came in. We got to talking and he told me capacitors can solve dimming lights and it did. My alternator is in very good shape though. Capacitors are cheap and might work for you.

I guess i just went therw the ASE electrical system when i worked at the Honda Dealer for no reason at all
also on a 1000 watt system a capacitor is useless. and you can add a small audio dedicated battery for the same price
and i know alot of people who run more than 1000 watts rms daily in fact my best friend is running somewhere around 6000 watts rms and is looking into bumping that up to 8000watts rms.

An ASE certification means nothing to me get MECP certified then we will talk

well as for me , not in my civic, but my 07 corolla S I have 3 12" kenwoods rated at 400w rms, hooked up to an 1800 watt kenwood amp also have a rf300.4 powering 2 sets of MBquart 6.5 components, all with 12g speaker wire and 0 gauge power wire and I have no dimming, no hard starts, OEM alternator, and slightly upgraded battery. to the OP get some bigger power wire, ground wire, etc. the BIG 3 will prolly help you out also

we arn't quite sure what he is at with this setup he has hit over 150 with several past setups tho and this is his most powerfull and loudest yet.
